Democratic countermemo claims FBI revealed Steele funding in FISA application: report

A Democratic memo written to counter a Republican document released Friday claims that the government presented additional evidence that would undercut the GOP conclusion, according to The New York Times.

Democrats have claimed key information was omitted in the Republican document, which was based on classified documents that have not been released.

Republicans say in their now-public memo that the FBI did not reveal that information underlying a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) request came from a politically motivated source.

The Democratic countermemo reportedly claims that the FBI did reveal the source of the information was politically motivated, according to two Times sources.

Officials may not have told the FISA court that the information was partially funded by Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee, the Times reported.

But if true, then they are alleging that the FISA court accepted a politically paid-for basis as a reason to allow that political party to use the government resources to spy on the other party... and thus, once again, the FBI, FISA, and others are in major need of overhaul.

Even the memo admits that the Steele dossier was not the only evidence used. What is unknown in all this is what other evidence went into obtaining the FISA warrant in the first place and what information was collected that was used to justify the warrant renewals.

And just because there was a political behind the dossier doesn't mean it can't be used. They might be somewhat skeptical but if there is other evidence supporting the claim then it becomes only part of the whole picture.

That would be hard when they have McCabe on recording basically saying the warrant was obtained by using the dossier.

Exactly. If the source of the warrant was politically motivated there never grounds to obtain the warrant.

Yeah we know. But the reality is the dossier is full of shhii so regardless of whether or not the judge knew it just makes the judge just as corrupt as the FBI/DOJ. The judge knowing doesn’t make the warrant any more valid because the dossier is built by political opposition research and media reports. That is not the standard to get a FISA warrant. Doesn’t help their case at all when it comes down to it. It’s just their scenario the judge under the bus as well.

Anyway I don’t believe them. I think they kept it from the judge ... lied by omission. I thought I read somewhere that initially the request for a FISA warrant was turned down until they brought in the dossier???

do you trust anybody in this fiasco? the judge is not trustworthy imo.

Contreras drew big laughs from the standing-room only crowd as he described how his father-in-law, upon learning Contreras would be a judge, remarked that his new position would look nice in his obituary.

Oh, goody! When it comes time to declassify the FISA records there won't be a problem releasing them.

Judge Contreas (sic) was recused ... now left hanging in the wind.

You need to point out that Judge Contreras is a FISC judge.

Then provide whatever record, written or electronic, that exists. There must be something.

It's like a tell in poker, isn't it.
We know who the approving judge is before we know who the approving judge was.

When this Democrat memo came out a few days ago, I recall that a GOP member who had reviewed it (but I don't remember who) stated that the Dem memo contained multiple material misstatements of fact, as well as attacking Nunes personally. This claim is likely to be one of them. Is anyone going to believe that anything put together by Adam Schiffty is going to be truthful and accurate?

What the Dems don't realize is that this will create immense pressure to reveal the underlying documents to resolve these kinds of claims, and I can't imagine the Dems want those documents released.

Was this Schiff-for brains' memo? If so, he (originally) had the only copy, and was responsible for securing it until the committee vote to declassify and release it.

Hang the SOB!

"The Democratic countermemo reportedly claims that the FBI did reveal the source of the information was politically motivated, according to two Times sources."

If that is true, then hang the crooked judge!

Why would they release a memo to the public with untrue statements, when they know there is likely more coming?

I thought the very same as you.

I can only believe they are, like a person already too deep in the quicksand, unable to act rationally or think clearly.

They are now in reactive mode and are going to incur further damage upon themselves and maybe even sink the democrat party permanently with the American public.

I meant the political funding source that they didn’t tell the judge about but now say they did. That was Swalwell?

My guess:

All this discussion about the judge rejecting and then finally granting the warrant is not because the judge thought it was not warranted (no pun intended) but because everyone was trying to CYA.

So the judge didn’t grant it at first because there wasn’t enough evidence. Therefore, he could have been held to account for a groundless, indefensible warrant. So he asks for more evidence.

The FBI/Comey/whoever goes for a do-over after producing the Steele dossier, etc. They may or may not have told the judge or hinted to the judge that the dossier was illegitimate. Or the judge may just have been savvy enough to guess/”know”.

Then the memo comes out. The FBI, along with Schiff and his ilk, is in full speed backpedaling CYA mode and is throwing anything at the wall that might stick. They don’t care if the judge gets the blame, so long as they have an excuse and “plausible deniability.”

The most humorous thing about this is that any of them think they have plausible deniability. They are all dirty. We all know it. They all look like kids with chocolate smeared on their faces pointing fingers and claiming that someone else ate the chocolate cake.

Hahahahahaha!

Time for the perp walks to begin!
