After decades helping refugee families become Americans, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque announced on Dec. 18 that it was getting out of the business. Its 77-year-old refugee resettlement ministry was being shut down.
(snip)We have received some indication that those agencies that are serving under 100 resettlement clients a year are at risk for being discontinued, of losing their federal contracts, she said on Jan. 9. So some of the agencies that are very small are threatened.
(snip) Sister Markham emphasized that the closing of the refugee programs is not a decision that Catholic Charities is making this is being driven by the decisions being made by the [Trump] administration.
(Snip - More winning !!!)
Just 5,000 refugees were accepted into the United States during the first quarter of fiscal 2018, meaning as few as 20,000 refugees may be allowed into the country this year.
(snip)
Catholic Charities and other agencies involved in refugee services are not just agonizing over the loss of fat federal contracts. In fact, according to Sister Markham, Catholic Charities does not make a cent from its refugee programs.
Like most of Catholic Charities efforts, refugee resettlement is paid for through a combination of public and private resources, abetted by Catholic Charities own fundraising. Federal contracts pay about 70 percent of the costs for refugee resettlement, Sister Markham said, with Catholic Charities itself covering the final 30 percent, in effect, subsidizing U.S. policy on refugee assimilation.
But, facing the loss of all federal support, she does not believe individual Catholic Charities agencies with smaller client bases will be able to assume the entire cost of such programs. They will continue, however, to support refugees any way they can through other Catholic Charities programs like housing, food or other social assistance...

Oh Boo Hoo. Bet that commie Pope is all upset.
Actually, over the past 2 years, a lot Freepers have posted about this waste of our tax money.
This is a blatant violation of the separation of Church and State.
Trying to find out how much of our tax $’s goes into these diversions is very difficult.
“Charities” and churches earning big bucks on what the federal taxpayers pay for “refugee assistance” operations. If it was not for taxpayers dollars, their “altruism” would fail and they wouldn’t be so “charitable”.
They should. move their operation into low income areas and help disadvantaged youth develop into successful adults. Give those kids a chance, scholarships to catholic schools for those who want and need them.

“I’m sure the people who pay this tab are getting scr**** royally!”
Look into a mirror, and you will see a Good American getting scr**** by paying for this.
Last but not least, how many expensive (if the child is not an illegal) Catholic schools are staying open with our tax $’s because of this bs. Private Catholic schools, if the child is not an illegal, charge a minimum 12-25 thousand $’s per year for the non illegal child to go to that school.
Good, the Catholic Church has been assisting in the illegal colonization of our country with our tax $’s for at least two decades in California.
there. fixed it.
Speculative headlines suck.
I did volunteer work for World Relief before I discovered what a scam the refugee program is....
I am Roman Catholic, I am just fine with these CDA refugee resettlement centers closing.
The Church is wrong for deliberately violating U.S. Immigration laws. There are plenty of other worthy causes that CDA charities should focus on such as housing and food for extremely poor senior citizens, more parochial schools, support for poor pregnant women who choose not to abort their babies, food banks for the poor, including the working poor, etc.

Here is Obambi and his white clone at the signing of millions of dollars money for them:

Full title: Judicial Watch: Documents Reveal Obama HHS Paid Baptist Children and Family Services $182,129,786 for Four Months Housing of Illegal Alien Children
Taxpayer funds covered free laptops, big screen TVs, $75 per child per day for food, pregnancy tests, and multicultural crayons
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch announced today that on September 9, 2014, it received documents from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) revealing that the Obama administration paid Baptist Children and Family Services (BCFS) $182,129,786 to provide basic shelter care to 2,400 unaccompanied alien children (UAC) for four months in 2014.
The BCFS budget included charges for $104,215,608 for UACs at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and an additional $77,914,178 for UACs at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
It seems to me that the Catholics and Lutherans are in competition to see who can who be first to destroy America.
Agreed. Lutheran and Jewish services doing the same should be shut down. Take care of those already here in need. Their misplaced compassion is a cruelty.
Excellent news.

As a Cathoic I am sorry to say this is a nevessary step. CC has been helping to bring illegals in for a very handsome pri s for among time.
Yes Good.
resettlement clients = illegal aliens + ObaMao’s muzzard invaders
It’s not just the Catholic church—the Episcopalians and other Christian denominations make massive sums off this scam.
If they get 70% of their funding from government sources then they aren’t even a “charity” at all by any objective measure — let alone a religious organization.
