40 Percent of All US Childbirths Occur to Single Mothers, 700 Percent Higher than in 1960
A recent report from the Social Capital Project reveals that the American family is disintegrating, fast. Fully 40 percent of mothers are currently unmarried.
This is bad news, because good families depend on good marriages. Marriage is the moral glue that binds them. Its the stabilizing agent. Theres a reason that children from married couples do better in school, and are less likely to end up in jail as compared to children of unmarried mothers, known as fragile families.
Lavar Young, civil rights activist, thinks marriage is a powerful tool for fighting against racial inequality. He outlines some of the problems children born out of wedlock face:
Fragile families are shown to have harsher parenting practices and fewer literacy activities, and children of such families produce lower cognitive test scores and a have a higher incidence of aggressive behavior.
Children are not the only ones who suffer, according to Mr. Young:
compared with traditional families, parents of fragile families are more likely to have become parents in their teens, more likely to have had children with other partners, more likely to be poor, suffer from depression, struggle with substance abuse, and to have been incarcerated.
When it comes to raising successful children, the importance of married parents cannot be overstated. On balance, married parents set better examples, and foster more stable relationships and environments that better prepare children for adult life. This is eloquently put by the authors at the Social Capital Project:

Their ancestors may have come from shithole nations.
Surely the later generations will do better!
....and none of this will be fixed through politics.
Yes. Yes he did. But he spelled “potato” wrong so he has been discredited.
absolutely TRAGIC!
I think you were addressing the idea that future generations would do better. These are future generations to several that have been headed in this direction. So far, no real improvement.
“Come on now...
...where is the RACIAL data??”
I believe it was 70% for blacks. However, the rate for whites has been growing and it is where blacks were in the 60’s. Government has destroyed the black families, now it is the white’s turn.
Many single mothers are better off with government benefits than marrying a low income man. Many women reach the age where they want to have a kid and can’t find someone they find suitable for marriage and go ahead and have a child anyway. Sort of a combination of having a puppy and a friend. It is tragic for the male child without a father figure and the female child has increased risks do to mamma’s boyfriend relative and are also damaged by not having a father around. Add in divorce, and the 40% ratio increases. It is a disaster that no one wants or cares to confront.
A society where 40% of the kids are born out of wedlock is a society that will fail, and should fail. IMHO.
A bastard is a bastard is a bastard
The article also fails to address the role of the illegal drug culture undermining the family. There is a complex set of forces which creates a culture that abandons the primary structure of society. Drugs are a quest for euphoria that destroys everything in its wake. This epidemic should be fought with all the resources in our reach.
It is time to end the use of our education system as a market place for illegal drugs and a source of girls to use as sexual outlets. It is time for students to see their education as more important than the education on the street that teaches drug marketing.
Well, I agree with you for all the good it will do ya.
More of the eligible white males knock out their suitability for being a family provider because of drug addiction. Many get kicked out of a marriage because of drug addiction and leave the woman holding the bag. The homeless epidemic is the result.
I know why. Many of those who control policy are having their pockets lined by the drug billionaires. They want more addicts and are willing to trade social destruction for their own prosperity.
There are other more devious policymakers. They see the addicts as a way to cull the herd. The drugs are a system of slow motion suicide. If one is an addict they will either die from overdose or die early from the health consequences. This loss of consumers puts pressure on the industry to grow new consumers. Hence, the monetary payoffs to keep the market open as wide as possible.
With regard to this issue, there are plenty of thoughts on exactly what is taking place, and why.
I don’t exactly buy into all of yours, but I do see parts of it I can agree with.
I’d rather not get bogged down on the issue today, having discussed it so many times before.
Thanks for the response.
Rat plan, remember it takes a village, these children are the next jail population and the dependents of the American taxpayer
“Deviancy down,” the catchy alliteration coined by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He was sooooo right
Absolute numbers by race should also be looked at. There are plenty of white folks wth the same behavior patterns. It has more to with socioeconomic status than race.
Is the drug culture undermining the family, or is that where members of fractured families find comfort?
Are you sure you arent confusing cause and effect?
I believe that’s a reasoned logical conclusion, but I’m not totally sold on it.
You may be right.
Well if blacks are 12% of the population and have a 70% out of wedlock rate then they represent 7 to 8% of that 40%. Hispanics another large demo at about 15% of the overall population may have it as high as 40 to 50% so one can assume a 6 to 7 % of that 40. If whites are about 75% of the overall population then whites would constitute the balance of about 22 to 25% out of the 40 or about 35% of white children are born out of wedlock.
There is plenty of data available to support my claim. Try looking at rural communities with significant opioid addiction problems.
Since pregnancy is mostly a choice by the mother, take her off the welfare rolls. Why should she be able to choose an unearned income for herself that is funded by the taxpayer I remember meeting a Section 8 tenant who was proud of giving herself a raise by means of a second child.
