A Marine is behind bars for defending himself and his family from an armed thug.
It was an ordinary evening for Joey Nelson. He was at home with his fiance, their 3 week old child, and a couple of friends. Then, all of a sudden, they were startled by violent pounding on the front door, and someone trying to force their way in. Nelson grabbed his gun and told the thug to leave. Thats when things turned violent.

Michael Wilson, the criminal shooter who started the shootout. He is now considered the victim after shooting at Nelson and his family.

Indeed it does.
> I suspect there are some things left out of the article <
Your suspicions are correct. According to Fox2 Detroit: “Westland police say that a fight over a mutual female friend inside the home led to the shooting.”
The Gateway Pundit referenced the Fox2 report, but left out that very important statement. I wonder why.
If he went outside the home than like here in Liberal Ct hes illegal with out a CC pistol permit.
I have been told you can only be in your home here.
Shot guns OK out side the home
Isn’t it? I would never survive there. I did survive on the outskirts of Houston half-way to College Station for more than 20 years and 8 years in the burbs of sugarland before that. Never had any troubles but we lived behind a locked gate. The new cretins from Tomball were “discovering” our area of secluded and isolated small acreage homes though and starting their infiltration in daylight raids. They were also discovering that the work at home dads and stay at home moms are very vigilant and mutually supportive and almost all well armed and capable of good shot groups.
She looks like somebody threw the book at her. Or,
maybe the whole damn library!
“Understand that shooting people is generally illegal, and its normal to throw the shooter into a cage until a judge sorts out what happened & why.
Seriously: if you fire in self-defense, expect to go to jail. You may be exonerated, but youll likely be arrested first.”
This is mostly correct with the exceptions of locality, state/local law, and LEO policy.
Plenty of accounts our there involving civilian defensive shootings where the defender was not arrested, nor charged. Detroit? Michigan has made some changes, but the motor city is still....hinky?
KYPD
Did you read the article? He’s been charged with several high level felonies.
Thats what went through my mind.
Maybe you have to open carry in your own home??
Two nights ago the alarm in my house went off at 4:50 A.M. It woke my wife and I out of a sound sleep and our kids came running into our room. After nervously fumbling with my safe I extracted my firearm while the wife called the police.
I maintained the high ground at the top of the steps after clearing the landing around the corner. I also noted the front door was open and there was some sort of tracks on the landing. I knew there were tracks because we had a fresh dusting of snow that night.
Once I settled my breathing and calmed a bit I had this horrid thought. If I had to shoot someone, that meant jail for certain. Even though I had retreated into the furthest spot possible it meant jail. Luckily, I didnt have to make that choice as the would be robber did not enter and fled the scene.
I live in a blue state and that is now the reality of it. The state gives the criminals the benefit of the doubt. It will never be said out loud but the state regards us rich people (anyone who isnt on welfare) as getting what we deserve when our houses get robbed. If our families get hurt? Well, that is seen as cosmic justice too.
Did you look a CCWSAFE?
No shooting people on your own property in self defense is almost always legal and hardly anybody ever goes to jail for it.
If you live in one of the few democratic socialist states of America like Illinois, New York or CA you may have a problem. Unfortunately this poor slob lives in Illinois and worse Detroit.
In GA we have stand your ground and castle doctrine. In metro Atlanta we have daily if not hourly shootings of home intruders. The only people who ever go to jail are the intruders if they live.
“Unfortunately this poor slob lives in Illinois and worse Detroit.”
Huh?
.
I’ve heard of them all, but am loyal to SCD.
One must read the fine print for all of these, though.
Avoid any that have the term, “Reimbursement,” in their terms of service. They won’t pay a dime until you’re acquitted.
LOL! I have a mental bloc about Detroit for some reason.
Actually Michigan does have a castle doctrine that allows for shooting an intruder if you believe your life or the life of another is in danger. The perp shooting first pretty much insures that the marine will never get to court. There must be something else at play.
The DA better be ready for jury nullification
“My LOCKED front gate is more than 500 yards from the road.”

What offense are we talkin’ bout here? Somebody just standing around 1500 feet away or someone charging the place with guns blazing or ?
I don’t see that as relevant to any of the charges.
Westland. A shitty suburb.
Detroit’s police chief actually advised city residents to arm themselves because Detroit is so big but the tax base and police are so small.
Westland police say that a fight over a mutual female friend inside the home led to the shooting.
The Gateway Pundit referenced the Fox2 report, but left out that very important statement. I wonder why.

Yup. That could be a major factor in what went down.
