Why I’m Still a NeverTrumper
NY Times ^ | 12/29/2017 | Bret Stephens

Posted on 12/31/2017 7:05:38 AM PST by RightGeek

Tax cuts. Deregulation. More for the military; less for the United Nations. The Islamic State crushed in its heartland. Assad hit with cruise missiles. Troops to Afghanistan. Arms for Ukraine. A tougher approach to North Korea. Jerusalem recognized as Israel’s capital. The Iran deal decertified. Title IX kangaroo courts on campus condemned. Yes to Keystone. No to Paris. Wall Street roaring and consumer confidence high.

And, of course, Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. What, for a conservative, is there to dislike about this policy record as the Trump administration rounds out its first year in office?

That’s the question I keep hearing from old friends on the right who voted with misgiving for Donald Trump last year and now find reasons to like him. I admit it gives me pause. I agree with every one of the policy decisions mentioned above. But I still wish Hillary Clinton were president.

How does that make sense? Can I still call myself conservative?

It makes perfect sense if the author would kind of like America to win, but he really loves the NY Times paycheck. It makes sense, in other words, if he is a disgusting traitor.

The NYT pays this piece of filth to spread propaganda to the most vulnerable and trick them into swallowing shallow excuses for supporting America's destruction. Perhaps "token conservative" is a job title that pays well, but I'd rather have my dignity. More important, I would much rather pass on a free country to my children.

He’s a liar. No conservative could ever wish for Crooked Hillary. Indeed, no thinking person at this point. A dyed in the wool Demorat could be excused for voting for her before her criminality was revealed. But, certainly no conservative.

One of the MAJOR reasons I like Trump is because he is NOT A POLITICIAN which outs him head a shoulders over those who would have loved to have attained the title of POTUS.

The word conservative has been diluted since the heady days of Goldwater. I no longer identify as a conservative given the many misfits who also claim the to be one.

What an idiot. Does this guy think Trump is cruder than LBJ? And even if he was, I’d rather have a crude Trump who treats our military, law enforcement, and common folk with respect than a Clinton who disrespects those groups. I know someone who was assigned to the Pentagon during Bush Sr’s last years and Bill Clinton’s first years in office and had to interface with the military, Congress, and the White House. The change between working with the White House under Bush and then under Clinton was night and day. This high-ranking military officer was treated like riff raff.

Another of his lies. By his deeds shall I know him.

Why go and tell the whole world what an idiot you are?

Better to appear a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.

I cannot imagine the combination of indoctrination and ignorance it takes for someone to be dreamy-eyed about Hillary Clinton. It’s just incredibly creepy.

Bret Stephens needs one of these. Assuming he doesn't already own one and wear it with pride when he goes to work:

The moral of this story is — better to destroy and subjugate America to the centralized slave state under the control of the equivalent of a left-wing “Politburo”, eradicate Christianity, and better to horrifically and excruciatingly painfully dismember alive and murder unborn children, and teach our children to hate God, hate morality, hate America — than to vote for love and concern of children, preservation of individual liberty and freedom, US sovereignty, and “crude”!

Yah, got it!

By the way, in real life, while coming from true wealth AND possessing a break-neck work ethic, Trump also lives with infinitely more class and etiquette, with much higher expectations of others to do the same, than the average high roller, and especially the media/press/Hollywood/academic/ and elected elites!

Trump has been in the public eye for decades. His endorsements were much sought after by other politicians. People wanted to be seen with him. He had a hit TV show. Now that he is president and is very busy fulfilling his campaign promises, he is all of a sudden icky.

And this morning we were told by the MSM that he lied about building the wall since it has not been built.

What the proud NeverTrumper Bret Stephens either fails to grasp or chooses to ignore is that the primary God-given purpose of civil government is to punish evildoers (1 Peter 2:13-14). In other words, civil government’s chief purpose is to administer justice. That is exactly what President Trump has pledged to do - and judging by the reactions of Bret Stephens and his fellow Hillary suppoters, that is what President Trump is actually doing.

Bret married two NYT women. Poli-sci university indoctrinated. Jewish. Lived in Mexico. Started out conservative, then got noticed for being a ‘contrarian’, so that’s his clickbait schtick. Likes much the A-list life, I’m sure.

Just another media whore with his very own wiki page.

Stephens is bought and paid for long ago. I wonder at what price? It's common knowledge now that many members of the press have been compromised. The most frightening thing about the editorial is the unbelievable lack of awareness shown by the authors of the follow-on comments, and the approval numbers for those comments. Bots? Shills for the Dems? Paid agitators? Something does not smell right here.

How can anyone equate HRC with anything but pure greed and malevolence?

He can say this ....

I agree with every one of the policy decisions mentioned above. But I still wish Hillary Clinton were president.

And then say THIS with a straight face?

But character does count, and virtue does matter, and Trump’s shortcomings prove it daily.

Crooked Hillary has a demonstrated, CRIMINAL character and zero virtue - for starters, she's left Americans to die without lifting a finger and in what can be described as an act of treason, sold America's national resources for personal gain at the expense of national security. When in H.E.double hockey sticks has Trump done anything even remotely close to what Crooked has done? Actions speak louder than words and in terms of what Trump has done, the author agrees with all of the policy decisions he listed that Trump has enacted or espoused, but he just doesn't like him? Going back to those policy decisions .... any decisions Hilly would have made would have been a 180 to Trump's, but this dodo would override those considerations due to her character and virtue?

The author's vapid, shallow musings in which he states his preference for the character & virtue of Crooked, betray his own character and virtue as being sorely lacking, and as such, he is certainly in no position to pronounce judgement on Trump's.
