Tax cuts. Deregulation. More for the military; less for the United Nations. The Islamic State crushed in its heartland. Assad hit with cruise missiles. Troops to Afghanistan. Arms for Ukraine. A tougher approach to North Korea. Jerusalem recognized as Israels capital. The Iran deal decertified. Title IX kangaroo courts on campus condemned. Yes to Keystone. No to Paris. Wall Street roaring and consumer confidence high.
And, of course, Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. What, for a conservative, is there to dislike about this policy record as the Trump administration rounds out its first year in office?
Thats the question I keep hearing from old friends on the right who voted with misgiving for Donald Trump last year and now find reasons to like him. I admit it gives me pause. I agree with every one of the policy decisions mentioned above. But I still wish Hillary Clinton were president.
How does that make sense? Can I still call myself conservative?

I am totally done with mushy country club republicans who happily get reamed by democrats... Stephens, the Bushes, Dole, McCain, Kasich.. all can just register as democrats.
Ill wager hes queer. Everything else with Trump could align for him, but that one item will stonewall him/them/zem WTFE.
Erstwhile WSJ scribbler.
“Has Stephens been asleep regarding all things Clinton since the Seventies? Anyone who can combine those two sentences in the same column is deliberately ignorant. And that kind of ignorance cannot be cured. Only pointed out for the pure intellectual depravity it is.”
Well stated. Bret Stephens reveals his Sunday morning, end of 2017 mental capacities are irreparably faulty. He is forever more to be disregarded as a fount of relevant information and opinion.
I used to read this guy when he was at TWSJ. I saw him gradually moving to the left, then he began insulting Trump supporters. I knew he wasn’t long for his job....and wasn’t surprised at all that he landed at TNYT.
Never Trumper
Because there was still some wealth in America that hadn’t been handed to the moochers, the enemies of America, or found its way into the pockets of the Clintons, Obamas and other democrats.
He can’t stand the president because he lacks class is how I’m interpreting this snowflake Repuke’s drivel of an OpEd. Stephens is the Ted Knight character in Caddyshack, the stuffed shirt snob at the country club. The president is the Rodney Dangerfield character who turns the place upside down, and gets in a few verbal jabs at them. Mr. Stephens may need therapy going into next year. His Deep State, establishment sensibilities have been hurt by this “crude” president.
Guy can call himself a giraffe if he wants to, but it won't make him one.
Not his real name.
Just like Obama insists that he himself is a genuine Christian.
And I wish people like this had their own country run by that venal contemptuous incompetent narcissist, not just their own reality
We are just starting to feel what it is like to live in a country where we are not despised by our president
“Hillary has the kind of virtue and cultural sensibility he prefers. But I still wish Hillary Clinton were president.”
Summarizing his “wishes”.
He’s a certifiable IDIOT!

Why I’m still a Never Trumper?
Because you are not a conservative. You are a bought and paid for member of the republican lobby efforts. You sell your opinion to the highest bidder. And Trump is not in that business. So of course you would never support him. He is bad for your “sell out the country” type of conservatism.
1. He was 100% behind Hillary Clinton, or
2. His pride won't let him admit that he was wrong all along.

How does that make sense? Can I still call myself conservative?
The question answers itself...
Many would call you a cuckservative.
Bret...it sounds like you are WHIPPED by your wife....SAD.
“I stopped reading at New York Times”
makes sense ...
