Time at Mar-a-Lago is a respite for Trump — and a headache for his staff (Slime's concern-trolling)

PALM BEACH, Fla. — When President Trump sat down with a reporter for a wide-ranging, 30-minute interview at his private golf club here Thursday, not a single aide or adviser was present at the table — and not a single aide or adviser knew about it in advance.

The interview was enabled by Christopher Ruddy — a club member with a level of personal access to the president in Florida that rankles White House staffers. He invited New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt as his personal guest to lunch at Trump International Golf Club, sat near Trump’s regular table and brought the reporter over to meet the president, who was still in his golf clothes.

As word trickled back to the White House, advisers worked to reach the president, with Trump’s personal aide interrupting at one point to hand him a cellphone with White House communications director Hope Hicks on the line; she checked in on the interview from afar.

But others were out of the loop even after the Times story was posted online Thursday evening. One White House official, when asked about the president’s impromptu interview, was perplexed, wondering aloud, “What interview? Today?” Another frustrated aide called it “embarrassing.”

Trump gets to talk to anybody he wants at Mar-a-Lago. Oh, the humanity!

I believe Trump prefers his own properties because of (legitimate) fears that Camp David etc are bugged.

Whatever he might be charging the taxpayers, I suspect it pales in comparison to the rents the Obamas passed along for his vacation home in Hawaii.

That’s actually the WaPo, but let’s be honest, they love headaches for his staff and they love it when he does interviews, so this is concern trolling at its finest.

I don’t know how you do it, reading the NYT? It sends my blood pressure up every time.

So he’s in his own building that he stays in every weekend, and he talks to people who are members, and the staff hasn’t figured out how things work after a year of this routine?

Sounds like incompetent staff.

Or incompetent reporting.

I think part of the reason Trump took the NYT interview is a poke in the eye to Bezos/WaPo/Amazon, then less than 24 hrs later he was telling the USPS to charge Amazon more.

"Whatever he might be charging the taxpayers, I suspect it pales in comparison to the rents the Obamas passed along for his vacation home in Hawaii."

And unlike Obama, President Trump actually works when he's away from the White House.

The most transparent presidency since WWII.

Literally, President Trump has nothing to hide.

What you see is what you get.

And that’s a WHOLE lot!

Why does Trump call the New York Times a “failing” peddler of “fake news” on one hand and then sit down for an interview with them on the other? They’re not going to make him look good.

Any rent charged for the homes in Hawaii Obama paid for, just as Trump pays for his stays at Mar-a-Lago. The government does not cover that.

It must be real tough, being in a high end tropical resort instead of a drafty old mansion that hasn't been well maintained in DC.

Perhaps the ingrates should quit. Perhaps there might be people who'd be thrilled to have the job.

I remember all those times LBJ went to his ranch in Texas. Remember when he, and his secretary were stopped for drinking and speeding?
Then there was George W Bush on his own ranch...
