LARGE, DENSELY POPULATED CITIES (NYC, CHICAGO, LA, ETC.) DO NOT AND SHOULD NOT SPEAK FOR THE REST OF OUR COUNTRY...

Without the Electoral College, the rest of the country has no reason to remain in the Union.

Hillary Clinton won almost 500 counties, not 57.

“TRUMP WON 3,084 OF THEM. CLINTON WON 57.”

You may want to check your numbers.

IN THE 5 COUNTIES THAT ENCOMPASS NYC (BRONX, BROOKLYN, MANHATTAN, RICHMOND & QUEENS) CLINTON RECEIVED WELL OVER 2 MILLION MORE VOTES THAN TRUMP.

Don't include Richmond County (Staten Island) in this sentence. Staten Island is nothing like the rest of NYC. It voted to secede from NYC in 1996, but was blocked by the Assembly Speaker who represented part of Manhattan (the core of the City).

In 2016, Staten Island voted overwhelmingly for Trump. The rest of the City went overwhelmingly for Clinton.

What a story! This is why the US has remained free of a dictator!!

Whoever thought of this Electoral College scheme was a genius.

What is surprising is politicians in some of those small-population states advocating popular vote rather than Electoral vote for presidential candidates.

They don’t seem to realize that in a popular-vote system they would never see a presidential candidate visit their state. As is, several of those small-population states become very important in close elections. One of two of them can determine the presidency.

In a popular-vote system, the election would be determined by NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and a dozen more big cities. [Of course, where do most of the Libs live?]

They would not have gotten agreement from the smaller states without a provision for an electoral college system.

Somebody sent you an email and it’s NEWS?

Tell them to calm down and figure out how caps-lock works.

You calm down too.

Per this article, Clinton won 487 counties and Trump won 2,626 counties.

NEW YORK - A trending story that claims Hillary Clinton won a total of 57 counties in the presidential election is untrue. The Associated Press finds that Clinton won 487 counties nationwide, compared with 2,626 for President-elect Donald Trump.

NEW YORK — A trending story that claims Hillary Clinton won a total of 57 counties in the presidential election is untrue.

The Associated Press finds that Clinton won 487 counties nationwide, compared with 2,626 for President-elect Donald Trump.

The story appeared on several viral content sites that cater to some of Trump’s supporters.

It also falsely claimed that Clinton outpaced Trump by more than 2 million votes in the five counties that comprise New York City, which the story said accounted for the entirety of her lead in the national popular vote. An AP count finds that Clinton beat Trump by roughly 1.5 million votes in New York City. Nationwide, Clinton holds a popular vote lead of more than 2 million.

The AP considers parishes in Louisiana as counties in election tallies. Washington, D.C., and Alaska have a single statewide reporting unit. Virginia’s count includes 95 counties and 38 independent cities.

This was posted many times after the election. The following is false

Counties won
TRUMP WON 3,084 OF THEM. CLINTON WON 57....

Correct total is:
2,623 Trump
489 Clinton

It worked exactly as intended.

Read 55 Men and the Constitution. Rodell is the author. There is an extensive writing on it.

I think you can find it at google books and read it on line.

There should be no discussion any further.

I’d frame it differently (and not in all caps ;) ), Clinton’s margin came entirely from one state, California.

The counties BTW where 2,622 for Trump and 490 for Shillery.

It is called federalism. The Electoral College preserves the power of the states. We are the United STATES of America.

Let me give you some more statistics that I compiled after the election.

I counted 4582 counties, townships and parishes in the country.
Donald Trump won 79.9% of the Counties/Townships/Parishes
Hillary Clinton won 20.8% of the Counties/Townships/Parishes

Hold on to your socks.....

Donald Trumps AVERAGE margin of victory in the counties he won was 36.3% points. THIRTY-SIX PERCENT average margin of victory in 80% of the counties, townships and parishes in the country.

Hillary Clinton won by and average of 22.6% of the Counties/Townships/Parishes that she won.

Yes, there is a MASSIVE divide in this country between Urban and Non-Urban voters. Here is an example, very much like the one in this article.

Trump won 89% of the counties in Illinois, with an AVERAGE margin of 39 points. Hillary Clinton won only 10.8% 11 Total) Counties in Illinois.

Yet, Clinton won Illinois by 859319 votes. How did she do that? She won Cook County, Illinois (Chicago) by 77.6%, or over ONE MILLION VOTES.

Again, 1 county out of 101 counties, gave her an entire state.

It is almost enough to try and change the Electoral College to reflect counties won within a state to determine the state winner, not simply the states’ total vote.

The Framers designed their presidential election process around two goals. First, only men of national stature, wisdom, experience and virtue would be considered. Second, the winner would assume office without any political debts whatsoever to a factional party or divisive segment of society; his duty was to “serve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Our gifted Framers were attuned to man’s natural proclivities. Their Constitution sought to minimize the formation and power of factions which, by definition, set their narrow interests before those of the nation. Because the Framers’ presidential system depended on the independence and integrity of electors, they would shudder in horror at the sight of today’s national party conventions.

To limit the practical choice of presidential electors to one of two leaders of outright political factions guarantees recurring appointment of presidents with little loyalty to the Constitution.

The Framers' President.
