It worked exactly as intended.

Read 55 Men and the Constitution. Rodell is the author. There is an extensive writing on it.

I think you can find it at google books and read it on line.

There should be no discussion any further.

I’d frame it differently (and not in all caps ;) ), Clinton’s margin came entirely from one state, California.

The counties BTW where 2,622 for Trump and 490 for Shillery.

From my American History college class a long time ago - like 50 plus years ago.

The urban - rural divide with its associated population imbalance was a political fact. But then it was Boston and Virginia. To gain and maintain the support of the rural states the electoral college was established. Sidebar - five of the first six presidents came from Virginia

Since it was based on the same representation process as Congress it forced the national political parties to at least visit each state in some manner.

BTW have you notice that pushes to destroy the Electoral College only occur after Democratic losses?

It is called federalism. The Electoral College preserves the power of the states. We are the United STATES of America.

Let me give you some more statistics that I compiled after the election.

I counted 4582 counties, townships and parishes in the country.
Donald Trump won 79.9% of the Counties/Townships/Parishes
Hillary Clinton won 20.8% of the Counties/Townships/Parishes

Hold on to your socks.....

Donald Trumps AVERAGE margin of victory in the counties he won was 36.3% points. THIRTY-SIX PERCENT average margin of victory in 80% of the counties, townships and parishes in the country.

Hillary Clinton won by and average of 22.6% of the Counties/Townships/Parishes that she won.

Yes, there is a MASSIVE divide in this country between Urban and Non-Urban voters. Here is an example, very much like the one in this article.

Trump won 89% of the counties in Illinois, with an AVERAGE margin of 39 points. Hillary Clinton won only 10.8% 11 Total) Counties in Illinois.

Yet, Clinton won Illinois by 859319 votes. How did she do that? She won Cook County, Illinois (Chicago) by 77.6%, or over ONE MILLION VOTES.

Again, 1 county out of 101 counties, gave her an entire state.

It is almost enough to try and change the Electoral College to reflect counties won within a state to determine the state winner, not simply the states’ total vote.

The Dems have won the popular vote in 6 out of the last 7 elections. There are more of them than us thanks to mass immigration. If we don’t reduce LEGAL immigration, the Dems will be the permanent majority party within a decade.

The Framers designed their presidential election process around two goals. First, only men of national stature, wisdom, experience and virtue would be considered. Second, the winner would assume office without any political debts whatsoever to a factional party or divisive segment of society; his duty was to “serve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Our gifted Framers were attuned to man’s natural proclivities. Their Constitution sought to minimize the formation and power of factions which, by definition, set their narrow interests before those of the nation. Because the Framers’ presidential system depended on the independence and integrity of electors, they would shudder in horror at the sight of today’s national party conventions.

To limit the practical choice of presidential electors to one of two leaders of outright political factions guarantees recurring appointment of presidents with little loyalty to the Constitution.

The Framers' President.

If New York, Chicago Illinois, and Southern California, should secede and union together, forever in poverty and desolation., because that’s what they deserve.

The big cities should be made states with two Senators and appropriate Congressmen and then kicked out of the Union. Let us see how far they get taxing their own citizens.

The electoral college is a weighted popular vote. Each state has a popular vote. The states’ votes are then weighted by their representation in Congress, which broadly reflects their populations.

“Since it was based on the same representation process as Congress it forced the national political parties to at least visit each state in some manner.”

The Electoral College is meant to represent the wishes of the people in each Congressional District express by their vote. Each elector should vote for the candidate, who received the majority of votes in each district. Just as each House Member represents the wishes of their district, each elector should also vote for the candidate elected by each district. There should be no winner take all on the state level. The additional two electoral votes per Senator should represent the wishes of the state legislature, hence the need to repeal the 17th Amendment.

Under the current winner take all system large urban political parties can skew the election through voter fraud, and massive get out the vote drives.

Our founding fathers knew that the urban area vote could be manipulated, and hence set up the Electoral College, to avoid larger states and population area dominating elections. They created a Republic not a Democracy to avoid mob rule.

Simple. So that the big states and large cities do not make all the rules and elect everyone over the rest of the smaller states and less populated areas. Our votes should count also.

All one has to do is look at disillusioned areas of states like Maryland which threaten to secede. We have no electoral system, so the “rural” (non-city) areas basically get screwed every time. And they get sick of it and want to leave.

Electoral college helps create a sense of fairness and consequent unity.

The US was formed by states voluntarily giving up some of their sovereignty. But the 10th amendment preserves the rights of the states. The Electoral College is a reflection and product of states rights.

If my baseball team had lots more hits than yours but mine were home runs and yours were singles that produced outs at second base, I would still win the game. You must win based on the rules of any competition.
