God bless unions /s
If union monkeys understood how to operate a business, they might themselves become makers.
I guess ATT knows what kind of workforce they need. Go spend union dues on yourself and democrat politicians, you fatass, worthless union douche.
Some of this is restructuring. ATT will launch thier own “netflix” service. DirecTV isn’t making any money because of escalating fees and users leaving and the “communists” at Netflix stealing users. Comcast and Verizon are also in the works to create their own “netflix. But soon you may not be able to use Netflix without paying extra for it.
God bless large companies run by board members that are only concerned about the bottom line, public opinion and would sell out the American Citizen by allowing the Government to spy on them instead of their employees /SARC
“How can you lay people off and then give them $1,000 and say that theres going to be more jobs available?”
Hey Joe, how’d you get to be Pres of union being so stupid? sounds to me like AT&T had too many technicians and call center people in certain areas. Just because some positions are not needed and being reduced does not mean there aren’t more jobs coming. People, your union tools, need to realize they are more than just one dimensional, they need to learn more so they are useful for more then just one cog in one part of machinery of a business.
God bless executives that destroy companies for a large bonus. /s
The Union can tell its members it’s just FUNemployment like we were cheered up with when zerp killed the middle class and called it the New Normal.
One thing that is anathema for unions is protecting jobs via advocating transferable job skills.
They would find themselves in much better shape.
AT&T is now offering Direct TV for cellular customers. Now how far behind the times is that.
Take the most expensive satellite offering, with the worse fixed package selection and then tie it to the 3rd rated cellular offering.
What do you get? A monkey dressed in a tuxedo.
First I cut my AT&T wire line 10 years ago because they would not budge on my bill. I just moved my cellular phones (2-iphones) because of the same reason to T-mobile "Over 55, Free unlimited everything 2 lines" for $60 a month for BOTH phones and got a FREE pad. This is saving me $90 a month and I was paying for data after 3gb. AT&T would not budge on the 3gb and we were customers for over 20 years. Sometimes our bill was running over 200 bucks a month.
Don't know where my real feelings stand.
Unions aside, As more people move to the internet for entertainment, you’ll see more layoffs in the Telecom industry. Landlines were used for telephones mostly in the early days of the internet. The telephone company was regulated. Now that most people use a land line for the internet and use mobile phones for “talking” and now that net neutrality is gone, the telecoms want in on it, but under their rules.
True that.
I was never in the union but worked years in major construction (Brown and Root, Daniels, Zachry. When Christmas rolled around you always looked for a layoff of certain skill sets. It would had been nice if they would had let these people roll into another skill. But nope, it was a head count eoy thing but it always seemed to happen BEFORE Christmas and not AFTER.
I cut DTV 7 years ago. Charging me $140 for nothing. Cut my land line because of strange charges for long distance and ATT using third party services to get around regulations.
It’s not as easy to cut the cord when in an area that cell phones hardly work and there is no on air TV.
Yep...look forward to higher fees. At least you’ll get some choices. Their stuff or nothing.
That’s right; tell them people use ATMs now and don’t need live bank tellers, so they need to brush up on their job skills. That was Otoken’s input...
Sixty days notice is required for such a layoff. Something is not right here
I think you have a valid concern. Very costly for another company to build up the infrastructure needed to compete.
