In FBI Agent’s Account, ‘Insurance Policy’ Text Referred to Russia Probe

An FBI agent’s reference to “an insurance policy” in a much-debated text message was meant to convey that the bureau needed to aggressively investigate allegations of collusion between Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia, according to people familiar with his account.

The agent didn’t intend to suggest a secret plan to harm the candidate but rather address a colleague who believed the Federal Bureau of Investigation could take its time because Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was certain to win the election, the people said.

[Paragraph 10] The text came after a meeting involving Ms. Page, Mr. Strzok and FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, according to people close to the pair and familiar with their version of events. At the meeting, Ms. Page suggested they could take their time investigating the alleged collusion because Mrs. Clinton was likely to win, the people said.

If they move more deliberately, she argued, they could reduce the risk of burning sensitive sources.

Mr. Strzok felt otherwise, according to these people.

His text was meant to convey his belief that the investigation couldn't afford to take a more measured approach because Mr. Trump could very well win the election, they said. It would be better to be aggressive and gather evidence quickly, he believed, because some of Mr. Trump’s associates could land administration jobs and it was important to know if they had colluded with Russia.

Mr. Strzok emphasized the seriousness with which he viewed the allegations in a message to Ms. Page on Aug. 11, just a few days before the “insurance” text. “OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE WE ARE SERIOUSLY LOOKING AT THESE ALLEGATIONS AND THE PERVASIVE CONNECTIONS,” he texted.

“Lame...seriously lame attempt at cover.”

Concur. It meant: (1) they were going to go soft on Hillary (by changing “grossly negligent” to “extremely careless” and (2) were going to concoct some process crimes to get Trump.

There is no other reasonable explanation.

" It's possible that Strzok is seeking to strike a deal and is cooperating."

All it will take is for ONE of them to flip and the entire house of cards tumbles.

That was what I thought too. Setting out the marching orders.

Even so, however, it’s hardly innocent and I don’t see this as much of an improvement their story.

Insurance is CERTAIN. The results of an investigation are iffy at best. Iffy at best DOESN’T equal insurance.

I think you're taking a metaphor far too literally.

Maybe. It could also indicate something much more nefarious.

"These lying thugs have had plenty of time to get their stories straight. The best thing is the Inspector General’s investigation. His reputation is that he is fair and honest."

This Inspector general was hired by Obama. Why would Obama hire someone who is fair and honest? This makes absolutely no sense.

Ohr didn’t show up to testify to a previously agreed time and place before Congress? I don’t know if that is legal contempt but it certainly is contemptuous of Congress by a federal employee who needs to be fired, pronto. Listening, Mr. Sessions??

Trial balloon time. McCabe was supposed to testify before the committee last week but then Strzok texts came out so he
postponed his appearance to synchronize his story with Strzok and Page. Look for these three to sing from the same songbook
they cooked up for the congressional committee. Truth can be a moving target when it comes to Washington DC swamp creatures caught red handed and forced to testify in front of congressional committees.

Unless the outcome of that “investigation” is predetermined.

I’m reading some reports that it is likely that Strzok was actually one of the authors of the infamous consolidated intelligence report, that fingered Russia as the ones that hacked the DNC. One of the reasons is Clapper’s testimony that it was quote “hand picked” agents from the NSA, CIA, and FBI who wrote the report, but left them unnamed. If it’s shown Strzok was involved, then that document could be even further questioned/discredited more than it already has been.

Football Coach: Navy can't pass the ball. They can't drive 80 yards in two minutes to win the game. But I'm not taking any chances. I'm going to run nickel and dime defenses as an insurance policy to make sure they can't complete a deep ball.

Neanderthal: Insurance policy? Insurance policy? Insurance is CERTAIN. Are you saying there's no way Navy can score against a nickel defense?

Looks like Ohr does not want any oversight on what he was doing. He does not want to answer any questions.
