As we all know by now, Judge Roy Moore wound up getting fewer votes than his opponent yesterday. A lot of people today are calling Moore a loser. On first appearances, not knowing the background to yesterday's election, that might seem reasoned. It isn't.
Knowing what I know, I have a reaction I'm not seeing others have. I'm sorry to realize that.
Judge Roy Moore deserves our thanks for putting his neck on the line, trying to carry the mantle of our ideals into the Senate of the United States. It was an honorable thing to do, and it was as honorable an effort as I have seen anyone make on behalf of the cause we say we support.
In my lifetime, I have only witnessed two people run against the sort of odds Moore did during this campaign. President Trump is the other.
Folks, this election did not turn on the hard work of Doug Jones. It turned on the hard work of everyone for Doug Jones. And if that sounds like praise for his ground team, lets talk reality for a moment here.
Doug Jones had the full backing of Democrat leadership, the Republican Leadership, the MSM, the complete chattering class on television, all the usual suspect Leftist groups, and a Kenyan who dumped $4 million into his campaign just days before the election.
By some reports Jones was backed by excessive funding on the order of 14 to 1 against Moore. In addition to that the Democrats launched a get out the vote effort that saw 92% of the November 8, 2016 Democrat voters appear at polling precincts to vote for Jones. By comparison, the Republican party refused to support Moore in this sort of effort, resulting in just over 50% of the November 8th, 2016 Republican vote, showing up for him. Think about that 92% vs 50%, and all for the lack of party support Moore (and Conservatism) deserved to have. And as if that wasnt bad enough, they also encouraged Republicans to write in someone else, and nearly 23,000 of them did. Look what that may have resulted in.
671,151 49.95% Doug Jones(D)
650,436 48.40% Roy Moore(R)
022,819 01.70% Write Ins
Add in the fact that the Democrats also ran a smear campaign with women who had passed up all of Moores career, to now air charges of abuse addressing things that happened up to 40 years prior. None of them filed charges then or now.
Accusers included women Roy had simply dated. They were 18. He was in his early 30s. No abuse was even suggested. He just dated them. Dont elect him. Hes a healthy male. And some people bought it. Nine accusers came forward. None of the accusers had a story to tell that made charges so credible, without very problematic story details being shot down, that it made sense to hold Moore accountable.
Roy had his own story to tell. He had people like us. He had Bannon. Late in the game he had Trump.
Folks, with Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, the DNC, the GOPe, the RNC, and most other people who should be in his corner applying towels to his opponent Doug Jones in his corner, any candidate would be hard pressed to even come close to Doug Jones ballot numbers yesterday. Judge Roy Moore did. He came very close.
Judge Roy Moore did not lose that election. While he had his back turned, most folks who should have supported him picked up the Mantle of U. S. Senate and handed it to Doug Jones. Moore went to the polls in a valiant effort to win it for Conservatism, his et tu brute moments too numerous to count during the campaign.
Yes, Doug Jones, youre efforts really paid off. You could have sat on your sofa at home and probably done just as well. With the full weight of the Democrat wrecking crew, the Republican traitors in D.C. and Alabama, and everyone else standing small with you, Moore was a very long shot.
But shot in the back he was (politically).
Now sing it Mitch. Sing it Ryan. Sing it GOPe. Tell us how you predicted this.
Well tell you to go straight to hell, for working your asses off to defeat Conservatism.
And thats exactly what you did.
Jones worked hard? Give me a freaking break you assholes. Roy Moore didn't work hard enough? He didn't stick his neck out far enough? He was a terrible candidate?
Honest to G folks, if this is how wishy washy we are after a loss, its a wonder we ever win.
Judge Roy Moore came very close to winning yesterday despite the odds. He is a winner in my book.
Today we are all losers, but not by our own doing.
The GOPe just made a very big mistake. It will cost our cause dearly.
Extremely Well Said!
The President will make hay of this yet, I know it.
I trust him implicitly.
Well said, I agree.
The goals of the GOPe and conservatives are not the same. There should have been a revolt when Mo Brooks was kicked to the curb. That one's on Mitch.
Excellent!
Bravo
Well Done!
EXCELLENT
Well said.
The Cheap Labor Express wanted to send the signal that we shouldn’t get uppity.
I like your post very much and agree with it. Thank you Judge Moore! Hey, nobody’s perfect and nobody runs a perfect campaign, but for a 70 year-old man to voluntarily endure what he did is something to be grateful for. Most of us, me included, would be unwilling to go through that.
But shot in the back he was (politically). Now sing it Mitch. Sing it Ryan. Sing it GOPe. Tell us how you predicted this. We'll tell you to go straight to hell, for working your asses off to defeat Conservatism. And that's exactly what you did.
I agree with your synopsis - Doug Jones inundated us with ads and the dems came out in droves.
Just heard a report here in Alabama that Nick Saben received in the neighborhood of 20,000 write in votes! Roll Tide and all that, but why even go to the polls if you’re just going to muck up the numbers.
His running for Senate certainly showed how deep the deep state goes. It is not just one party.
JoMa
Thanks. That needed saying.
Judge Moore can hold his head high.
Good post, but I think what you’re seeing here from Freepers is an understandable backlash from people who knew Moore was a very flawed candidate but respectfully kept their mouths shut until after the election. This is one of those cases where the entire GOP — from the national party leadership down to the local voters — bungled this as badly as anyone could have imagined.
Moore did pretty good with 99.9999999% of the World against him ,LOL
As an Alabama resident and voter fior Roy Moore I am committed to giving Senator Shelby the same consideration he gave a fellow republican and instead of voting for Shelby the next time I see his name on the ballot I will write in Roy Moore. I hope to spread the word and get enough Moore supporters to do the same and see how Shelby likes loosing because of write ins. I am also surprised at how many Alabama republicans do not know that Shelby was a democrat who switched parties just to get elected. Shelby remains a demwit in spirit, which explains how he so easily dumped on another republican.
Thank you.
Hey Mitch!
Don’t stab our candidate in the back, and then whine that he’s weak.
Don’t orchestrate a slander campaign against our candidate, and then bitch about his alleged “baggage”.
Don’t disown our candidate from the party, and then complain that he can’t run a campaign.
You murdered his campaign, Mitch, deliberately with malice aforethought. We don’t forget traitors and backstabbers, Mitch.
What has happened will cost us dearly, but the GOPe didn't make a mistake. They worked hard to make sure that Moore lost. They are a wing of the Uniparty and would be much happier being the token opposition to actually representing the GOP voting base. Mitch McConnell would be very comfortable being the Minority Leader rather than having to fight for conservative principals.
