Soldiers from the U.S. Army’s iconic 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, were the first to field the new M17 pistol this week.
The era of the Beretta-made M9 for Army leaders is over with the introduction of Sig Sauer’s new Modular Handgun System. A select group of soldiers tested M17s on Monday.
Roughly 2,000 pistols were inventoried and inspected prior to the demonstration.

I understand that SIG’s will go off by themselves if you step on them. At least the Kalifornia SIG’s will.....
Would .40 (.400”) ball stop any better than 9mm (.355”) ball? I don’t think it would make that much of a difference, and with 9mm you get more rounds in the same length magazine.
Sure hope the Military version has lighter trigger than the civilian Sig P320.
First thing I did was change it out for the Grayguns trigger, which comes in at about 5.5 lbs.
I have the full size RX and found a great CCW holster for it, and now its my dream package.
Was carrying the Sig P220 SAO Carry (.45), but this 9mm set up is great.
New math, two 9s = one 45.
Hollow points would violate The Geneva Convention.
But only on the Embarcadero in San Fran. Everywhere else, they’re golden.
My Glock hold 15 in the mag and 1 in the chamber. most 9s are the same. .40s are usually about 155-165 grns as opposed to 115-125 for 9s, in my book that’s a lot more stopping power. This is all personal preference I know, and from a tactical aspect round placement is more important that bullet weight. All things being equal, I’ll take the bigger and heavier bullt

The U.S. ratified the first three articles of the 1899 Hague Convention but never signed Article IV. Additionally, Article IV, Section 3 states that the prohibition on the use of hollow points applies only in a conflict between two signatories. Even if the U.S.A. had signed Article IV, the provisions wouldn’t apply to the United States unless fighting another signatory state.
I prefer 9mm for two reasons: First, the stopping power of 9mm +p 124g JHP is not much less than a .40. Second, the cost of 9mm is 25% to 50% less than .40, which means more time at the range, more practice, improved shooting skills, and better shot placement, which is the most important factor in self-defense.
