Reminds of Scooter Libby who supposedly lied by just repeating what was common knowledge on the wine and cheese circuit concerning the Plame woman.

Even the wapo thinks Libby was screwed:

According to the filing (thanks for link!) Flynn was being wiretapped on 12/22/16 that was unmasked and lied in what he told FBI on 1/24/17 before he was cut loose by Trump in February 2017. We knew all this months back ... meanwhile ... Marie Harf on FNC saying that of course Obama was wiretapping all the Trump people!

Yes, and per previous reports the subject being discussed was the Obama sanctions on Russia. Flynn was supposedly fired for lying to Pence that they weren't discussed on that phone call, at all, leading Pence to state that no Trump official had done so, But supposedly Sally Yates called Pence and/or Trump and told them they had the tape of Flynn, which led to the firing, and now the charge of lying to the FBI as they had questioned him as part of the vetting for National Security Advisor.

Debates exist about how deep Flynn's conversations about the sanctions went, and if they were made while he was on vacation in the Caribbean or not. Per supposed leaks nothing was actually promised to the Russians, especially not in a quid pro quo manner, but no transcripts or audio has ever been released.

But most importantly, whatever discussions that Flynn had with the Russians, they were apparently made completely on his own, based on Trump and Pence's assertions that no promises were made by anyone to their knowledge, which would certainly have included themselves. And they followed through with the quick firing of Flynn for what might have been an otherwise inconsequential lie.

Where Mueller takes this now is anyone's guess, but based on all the known facts so far, he seems extremely intent on charging Trump team members with anything he can possibly find, while turning a complete blind eye to anyone related to the Clinton campaign.

Hillary was not under oath when interviewed by the FBI. She had several lawyers with her. There was no transcript, recording or even notes taken at the interview. What a country...no, what a government.

Considering policy other than Obama's was apparently a crime in their eyes and justified them wiretapping Trump and then leaking such to the Washington Compost. Flynn's crime was lying to FBI about it and that's why he was fired by Trump.

We knew all this ... there is no there there ... Trump is POTUS!

Now as for those who were doing the wiretapping ... TBD ;)

Reminds me of the Martha Stewart conviction for lying about insider trading, even though she was not charged with insider trading.

Yup just like with Scouter Libby. Manufacturer charge where no crime was committed.

Dunno of course ... but seems to me this sets up a precedent about lying to Mueller that should be applied to Obama + Clinton folks. This sequence of events sets up for something major to drop this coming week, hopefully after the tax bill is passed and John McCain’s curiously switching boots isn’t a factor here.

From what I’ve heard this morning on FOX, apparently lying to the FBI whether under oath or not is actionable.

If this is the only charge, it may mean that he agreed to plead guilty to this in exchange for cooperation.

Hold on tight.

Jonathon Turley is confused because with the wiretapping it’s an easy case to prove, we already knew all this. Flynn’s testimony is tainted by the guilty plea ... unless Flynn’s testimony is to go against Obama regime for the surveillance.

Nobody ever refers to him as “Former Obama DIA Chief”. He worked for Obama for 2 years, three weeks for Trump.

Donald Trump was never a target of Mueller

Trump is absolutely THE target of Mueller, your crazy if you can't see that. Trump fired Mueller best forever friend Comey. Mueller and Comey are Clinton cleaners, they are going after Trump. Give the rats the house in 2018 and then Mueller will feed the impeachment machine. No rat house Mueller will leak leak leak to weaken Trump in 2020. Mueller is the swamp.

“Can we agree muller is not on team trump??”

When a question contains a false premise like yours, it is known as a “loaded question” and is a type of fallacy.

Example: “Have you stopped beating your wife?”

The only rational response to a loaded question is to ignore it. Typically, the questioner will keep repeating it ad nauseum and can not understand why nobody will give them a direct answer.

It is because people don’t generally like having words put in their mouths.

Why anyone would speak to the FBI on any subject is beyond me. I would tell them the name of my dog if they came to the door. I’d politely say: I’m a patriotic American citizen. Talk to my lawyer. Her is his number. Now GTFO my front porch.

In YOUR opinion. There are very credible experts who disagree with everything your posted here. Wait and we’ll see who is right.

“Hold on tight”

Indeed. Trump may be in the clear regarding Russia, as some pundits are saying, but Mueller has already veered from just investigating Russia collusion by charging Manafort for charges occurring way back in 2005. As said above on this thread, the Rats will keep looking and looking and looking and never stop.

Exactly. The only reason the FBI could charge Flynn with lying is because they had the recording of Flynn's meeting with the Russian ambassador. The intel community was monitoring the Trump transition team based initially on the Steele dossier that formed the basis of a FISA warrant.

Obama was running all of this because he did not want his policies undermined when Trump assumed office. And Congress put those policies in stone under Trump when they passed overwhelmingly a law prohibiting the lifting of sanctions by the President who had to come to Congress in order to do so.

Flynn will be pardoned by Trump at some point, probably before he leaves office in 2021 or 2025 depending on what happens in 2020.

Pence and Trump must have had the recording of the Flynn meeting with the Russian ambassador provided by the intel community. They had no choice but to fire Flynn who was probably exceeding his authority. Still, there is no crime with discussing these matters with the Russians, only the process crime of lying about it to the FBI.

Curious it’s now said that Flynn will plead Not Guilty so there is no plea and only a statement of information presented to Court, this is all Mueller had on Flynn / Trump. Meanwhile John Roberts saying there is a plea deal.
