The White House has developed a plan to force out Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson, whose relationship with President Trump has been strained, and replace him with Mike Pompeo, the C.I.A. director, within the next several weeks, senior administration officials said on Thursday.
Mr. Pompeo would be replaced at the C.I.A. by Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas who has been a key ally of the president on national security matters, according to the White House plan. Mr. Cotton has signaled that he would accept the job if offered, said the officials, who insisted on anonymity to discuss sensitive deliberations before decisions are announced.
It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Trump has given final approval to the plan, but he has been said to have soured on Mr. Tillerson and in general is ready to make a change at the State Department.
John F. Kelly, the White House chief of staff, developed the transition plan and has discussed it with other officials. Under his plan, the shake-up of the national security team would happen around the end of the year or shortly afterward.

That’s how you can know it’s BS
When I was in he Scribbling Profession, the Stylebook was our bible.
There was a time, pehaps decades ago, when the AP was the gold standard of news reporting.
Likewise, CBS News before the Cronkite era...
Hard to know but I would be glad to see it happen.
Tillerson is another that often seems to undercut Trump. This would not be a surprise if he leaves.
Confirmed.
Maggie Haberman is good friends with one of Gen. McMasters deputies whose been suspected of leaking information to the NYT for quite some time.
There is a silent coup going on engineered by the MSM, the Deep State Swamp operatives, possible moles and leakers within the Palace itself, plus billionaire money backers to oust the president by any means possible.
I woke up this morning to a series of "impeachment" commercials being run on Fox News. It's right in our face, folks...and on FOX !!!
I flipped over to MSNBC for a while to see what the enemy was up to....it was solid, non-stop, outright commentary on how the President is unhinged, unstable, incoherent, running crazy, has his insane finger on the nuclear button....and so forth.
There is serious stuff going on, freepers.....the public is being stirred up and frightened with propaganda, fake news and leftist battle strategy.
If the tax bill doesn't pass, all hell is going to break loose in a variety of ways.
Hang tough...and stay alert.

Exactly.
If we assume this to be correct, then Tillerson’s job was to do the house cleaning.
He was assigned to clear out the dead weight, and leave a clean slate for whomever comes next. In reading the other stories about how the State Dept is being hollowed out, this is a good thing.
Remember...there are different CEO categories. The founder, the stay the course, the grow, the fixer, and the closer.
Tillerson was brought in as a fixer. A fixer clears out the old stock, corrects the inefficiencies, replaces the Exec C suite and turns the direction of the organization in consultation with who will succeed him. His job is to set the stage for his successor to succeed. If his successor fails, he failed.
Accurate analysis. I expect that Trump will hire people to accomplish specific objectives and then after meeting those objectives, resign to be replaced by someone who will have different objectives. I like Tillerson but it not surprise to see Tillerson leave.
NYT bs.... unless Trump tweets that it’s fake news.
Yep
I agree with post #3.
No report in Fox News or any conservative outlet yet. I disbelieve all leftist media.
I agree with post #3.
"...said the officials, who insisted on anonymity to discuss sensitive deliberations before decisions are announced."
Who leaked this? I don’t like this. You don’t treat people this way, unless Rex already knew about this.
Yes, and I vaguely recall reading when Tillerson came on board that he did not plan to stay for a terribly long time, but was there to shape things up. Which he is doing apace.
As for disagreements with Trump, I think the two are basically in agreement. But the press asks about every single little word Trump says. Often he will have said some random thing, not meaning it as a policy change but as an observation or opinion, and the press will then suddenly challenge the target of their questions to support it. If he doesnt - or doesnt even know about it - then they say he opposes Trump.
I keep hearing Dem propaganda that 48% of the people want Trump impeached. It is obvious that they are doing everything they can to set up Trump for a fall. You cannot remove a popular Prez from office so they must build the myth that Trump no longer has popular support.
In addition, the Congress is saying that if Roy Moore wins a seat in the U.S. Senate they will vote to not seat him. They report that there is precedent by way of an act just prior to the Civil War. The sum of these facts is - to learn from history - we are likely headed towards a civil war: not a war between the states, but a war between Washington D.C. and the citizens of the country.
More NYT BS.
Fox is reporting this, now. Reporter John Roberts just talked about it, with a banner stating Tillerson reported to be leaving in January.
