The mother of Leigh Corfman, who says that Alabama Senatorial Candidate Roy Moore tried to engage in a sexual encounter with her when she was 14, told Breitbart News that the Washington Post worked to convince her daughter to give an interview about the allegations against Moore.
Speaking by phone to Breitbart News on Saturday, Corfman’s mother, Nancy Wells, 71, further stated that her daughter would not have come forward if it weren’t for The Post reporter’s alleged actions.
Corfman went public with her accusations against Moore in a Washington Post interview published last week in which she alleged that Moore attempted to initiate sexual contact with her in 1979 when she was 14. Three other women between the ages of 16 and 18 claim that when Moore was in his 30s, he attempted to court them or that he dated them. The current age of consent in Alabama is 16.
Moore has strongly denied the accusations. He has questioned the timing of The Post’s story, which was dropped mere weeks before the December 12 election.
Corfman’s mother, Wells, told Breitbart News that reporters for the Washington Post convinced her daughter to give them an interview.
“She did not go to them,” said Wells. “They called her.”
“They tried to convince her to do it?” this reporter asked.
“Yes,” replied Wells, matter-of-factly.

I’m trying to imagine the cost of hiring private investigators to dig up contacts like this 38 years ago. Did WaPo spend that kind of money?

At what point does (has) the so-called “media” cease to be a journalistic enterprise protected by the First Amendment and instead become simply a slanderous conspiracy deserving of RICO scrutiny?
Not saying there wasn't payola, but they probably used another persuader.... blackmail. As in "we have this story and are going ahead with it with or without your help. Now do you want to cooperate with this or not? If the latter, you can rest assured that you aren't going to like how we portray you anymore than the way we are going to portray Moore."

Shades of the 2006 “scandals” that the DNC and press coordinated attacks on to whip up hysteria about “a culture of corruption that rises to the top ranks of the party!” with regards to a toe tapper and a guy who sent sexually provocative texts to an aide (Democrat, if I recall). The Democrats and the press both knew about it before the top of the GOP learned of it. It came out in the post-election hearings. Phony outrage “knew about it and did NOTHING”. Yeah, so did the media and the DNC. They referenced saving it for late in the election.

American media has always been thus.
The first Amendment allows them to print pretty much whatever they want about public figures, especially politicians.
“Susie said”...that’s all they need. They are then immune to lawsuit. They have no obligation under the law to verify Susie’s claims.
Now, if they paid Susie to say certain things, that opens up another avenue. But if they just paid Susie to tell her story, they’re covered.

Wouldn’t surprise me - Mitch and McLame and Rove, as Bush proxy.
It suggests that there was actually some contact between Moore and the girl in the 70s. If the woman needed convincing to talk, it suggests somebody else in Etowah County knew that something happened and got the Post in contact with reluctant accuser. I do not think the information in this Breitbart story helps Moore's cause.
The answers to those questions don’t matter a hill of beans.

I posted the line from Sweet Home Alabama on another thread: “Southern man don’t need him around anyhow” as bit of a joke, but there’s actual truth to it. Like most of the rural Trump-voting states, people in Alabama really don’t need the Washington Post around. They don’t need east coast liberal muckrakers bribing semi-unstable women or stoking their imaginations about what did or didn’t happen when they were impressionable teenagers. The WaPo and corrupt media is pretty much the same thing Neil Young represented:
