It’s possible that Chris Matthews has publicly discussed his drinking past before, but I had never witnessed it until tonight.
When, on this evening’s Hardball, a winning Dem candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates started to discuss the opioid crisis, Matthews spoke up:
“I was lucky not to have that [opioids.] I think I drank over the years too much and I quit.”

Bummer. I thought the title meant that he quit his show, quit talking, just quit. Yet there he is.
The damage has already been done though Chrissy.
Rumor has it that, Matthews one of the original Jim Hones disciples who never recovered from drinking the Kool Aid, but carried on with life as a zombie.
My theory, Chris “Thrill Up His Leg” Matthews drank too much, woke up in a dungeon shoehorned into a latex gimp suit with a ball gag in mouth, getting molested by circus clowns, and he had an epiphany.
Dang, when I saw the headline I thought. Goody, Thrill-leg Chrisie is finally leaving TV.
“Damage already done.”
Quitters suck...nobody likes a quitter. Dry drunks are the worst.
So that’s why he’s been talking like a drunken moron all these years!
