In the aftermath of Sunday’s deadly mass shooting at a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Morning Joe’s panel spent much of the broadcast repeatedly calling for gun control and trying to delegitimize the concept of gun ownership for the purpose of self-defense. At one point in the show, New York Times columnist Bret Stephens insisted that there wasn’t a “single instance” that conservatives could point to of anyone “us[ing] their guns to protect their liberties.” Bizarrely, Stephens had already forgotten that it was a citizen armed with a gun who stopped yesterday’s massacre from becoming even more horrendous.
For the most part, the MSNBC morning show used their discussion of the shooting to advocate over and over again for expanded background checks to prevent people like the shooter from acquiring guns. Regardless of the fact that initial reports (which were brought up on the show) already suggested that the background check system as it exists should have prevented the mass shooter from acquiring guns, the panel repeatedly demonized Republicans and the NRA as having blood on their hands for preventing “common sense” gun control.
In continuation of these inane talking points, the panel had Stephens on to rehash his arguments for repealing the Second Amendment on “conservative” grounds (Stephens originally made his case in an op-ed for NYT after the Las Vegas mass shooting):

ANOTHER happy ending!
Guns are protecting our liberties at all times because patriots own them by the millions and those who would deprive us of our liberties know that.
And two more. All within the past 6 months, New Yawk Times:
The Armed Citizen
Out in the parking lot at his apartment complex, a man was called to aid one of his neighbors. An abused woman, battered for hours by her boyfriend according to police officers, ran from her residence and into her neighbor outside. Her attacker had followed her, and proceeded to get into an argument with the neighbor attempting to help her. The argument escalated with the armed citizen warning the other man to back off. Ultimately, the neighbor was forced to draw his concealed weapon, firing one shot and killing the boyfriend. The man was not arrested and is working with investigators. The Armed Citizen® Extra
Late one night, a young man broke into a Columbus, Ga., house where he confronted the homeowner, who shot and killed him in self-defense. Under the Castle Doctrine, Georgians are permitted to use deadly force to protect themselves inside their homes if they reasonably believe such force is required to stop unlawful entry into or attack upon a habitation. From personal experience before the days of ccw, my wife and I used to travel on vacation with a cased 870 in the trunk.
We brought it into a national chain motel room just outside of St. Louis.
I loaded it with 4 rounds of 00 with the chamber empty and leaned it against the nightstand.
At around 3am someone kicked open the door but the secondary safety latch stopped it from opening. I picked up the 870 and racked it back and forward and it answered out, “kerchunk, kerchunk.”
Suddenly a female voice yelled, “ Don’t shoot, don’t shoot. We be leavin! We be leavin.
I got completely up as I could hear running and saw the woman and two male friends high tailing it down the stairs.
I was a believer from.that moment on.
Democrats are total fools.
Zimmerman vs Martin
It happens literally millions of times per year.
Author needs to join the NRA and subscribe to it monthly publication “American Rifleman”. Every issue has a segment called “Armed Citizen” that has several instances of fire arms used for self defense.
Liar.
More nonsensical gun laws that will only hamstring honest gun owners? More bureaucrats dictating our rights to us? MOLON LABE! FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS!!
He is fully aware of defensive firearms use. It just doesnt fit with the liberal false narriative that guns are bad. Actually guns in the hands of citizens ARE bad if you want to impose a tyranny, and the democrats want to impose a tyranny with them in charge. It is their driving force. They KNOW that they’re superior to the rest of us and we need our money confiscated and our freedoms removed so as to enable them to run our lives the way they know we need our lives run.
See post #30
They obviously don’t subscribe to the NRA magazine! Every issue contains real life stories of gun owners defending themselves and others.
America has the Second Amendment which allows citizens to be armed. Criminals have to play the “Is he/she armed?” game every time they get froggy. In this way, firearms provide self defense for people, armed and unarmed, everywhere, every damned day. That’s why the murderers among us choose places like churches, schools and malls to kill their victims. The likelihood of running into a good guy with a gun is very, very small.
Hey, Bret, why don’t you pick up a copy of American Rifleman. They have a monthly column about all the armed citizens who stop and/or drop perps on a regular basis. You know, those armed people you don’t think exist? You f*cking imbecile.
I watched about 50 videos on youtube this weekend from Active self protection showing surveillance videos of cc victims naing their perpetrators.
Anyone who has not seen these, start here:

I mistakenly posted one from Brazil but there are dozens from the US.
Morning Blows
“Every house that isnt robbed because the burglar worries about a gun is an act of a firearm being used as self defense.”
Tunnel vision is what it is - and the only way they can make such claims. They would be appalled - appalled I tell ya - to find out how many incidents were averted w/o a shot because a good guy was there with a gun....much less the active shooter scenarios where killing was curtailed.
