SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas - The man accused of killing 26 people including an 18-month-old child at a Texas church had sent threatening text messages to his in-laws who sometimes attended the house of worship before launching the latest U.S. mass shooting, officials said on Monday.
There was a domestic situation going on within the family and the in-laws, Freeman Martin, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told reporters. The mother-in-law attended the church. We know he sent threatening ... that she had received threatening text messages from him.

He had a wife?
divorced, after the Domestic incident while in the USAF
And maybe a child. Still unclear.
He had a child. Maybe two.
He got his bad conduct discharge in 2014 for abusing his wife and child.
And.
There is (maybe was) a FB photo of him holding his infant child.
So. If he was kicked out for abusing a child in 2014, then he has another child now as the baby in the photo was not around 3 years ago,
Thanks.
We need to ban inlaws.
Divorced in 2012 after assault which resulted in his court martial, remarried soon after.
He was an atheist.
Murdering people in church was easy for him.
Was that wife #1? This is wife #2.
What woman in their right mind would date, let alone marry, a guy actually convicted of spousal abuse.........
And the guy wouldn’t stay and fight once he got shot at. Tells a lot about him, and the other criminal trash like him.
What if he had an affair, and attacked wife #1 and the kid? The other possibility I can think of is that he was locked up and served his sentence, which some would consider learning his lesson.
The meme is being developed; he was after the in laws. As another poster pointed out:
1) they are still alive
2) he could have killed them at their home
This was not an attack on in laws by some disgruntled ex-family member. Is was an attack on a conservative Christian house of worship by a lefty atheist. Had armed citizens not stepped in, you could guarantee that others would have been killed as well.
He had other guns in the car. He could very well have planned to go kill people at other neighborhoods after the initial murders.
That’s the connection I’ve been waiting for — to an otherwise remote church.
I think there isn’t a wife #2.
What I find interesting is this church is where the in-laws go.
I wonder if the in-laws have custody of the kid or were they instrumental in the divorce.
He’s been boiling inside for a long time.
Yes there is, wifey#1 is named Tessa (or something like that). That was the one he beat while he was in the USAF and dumped him while he was serving his year in prison.
Someone 19 falling for a show at Church probably. I’ve known guys to start going to church just to meet some women who aren’t skanks. Sometimes they stick with it.
I would guess that skank-free is not a popular label in the social media world.
I've seen dozens of cases of service members abusing their family members and they are almost always adjudicated at NJP. To go to a GCM, it has to be severe and probably repeated. They would have had to have significant injuries, not just a black eye or a few bruises. He must have beat the living crap out of them.
Also, there are two parts of the Gun Control Act of 1968 that made it illegal for this murderer to possess firearms. First, the felony conviction at GCM, and second, the Lautenberg Amendment to the same GCA of 1968, which bans ownership of firearms by those convicted of domestic violence, even if misdemeanor.
