EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Deb Fisher (R-Neb) met October 17 to discuss the future of the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), which regulates the production of biofuels. At issue was whether the RFS might be lowered for 2018, as Administrator Pruitt suggested in recent months might be the case. But, on October 20, EPA officials announced the renewable fuel volumes for 2018 would be at or above what had been originally proposed, reversing the implication of statements made earlier in the year by Administrator Pruitt.
Such a decision matters because U.S. grain and oilseed prices are highly dependent. For example, 48 percent of the 2017 corn crop is anticipated for use in producing ethanol.

A much better use of the corn is to feed livestock, because ethanol does not save gas mileage....in fact it has been proven to damage engines. OR GIVE IT BACK TO MOONSHINERS! I don’t want it in my vehicle!
Hey now, stop making sense! Some people’s greatest source of satisfaction is bashing alternative energy (or Sessions) on FR!
Doesn’t surprise me in CA. CA sure eats a million bushels of corn and feeds it to their monstrous dairy industry. They also feed a million tons of the high protein feed left after the ethanol is fermented. I can’t disagree with the topsoil concerns. No-tilling is always a good idea for crop production in general.
...the ethanol subsidy ended in 2012...

MANDATED USE = SUBSIDY
The economic effect is the same. Why do you fear letting the free market decide how much (if any) corn derived ethanol will be used for fuel? You and I both know the answer to that. There are many forms of corrupt cronyism and they ALL cause economic inefficiencies and less overall national wealth than a free market would otherwise deliver.
Then don’t use it. You know darn well engine longevity is 3 times longer now. Show me the evidence. 300-400k is not uncommon.
Have you ever seen herds of starving cattle in the Midwest? Or livestock chowing down on soybeans? A little education about agribusiness wouldn’t hurt, ya know?
Here’s a place to start - compare corn production cost vs yield times price per bushel, and how much of a box of corn flakes goes to the farmer.
The problem is, the urbanites know nothing about agriculture or converting solar energy into portable fuel. They do however, believe everything the oil industry puts out.
Absurd comment.
That’s what I said....
Farm Subsidies == Welfare Queens
There is no free market for anything, none. How can there be a free market when government parasites hold a gun to your head to collect taxes?
I was talking about how ethanol (corn) damages engines. Yes, I know about use of corn for livestock. More farmers are profiting from corn for ethanol, which has driven up price....better use is for feed....starving children, etc.
Mandated additions do not equal subsidies. Should there be no fuel additives? Is that what you are suggesting? Or maybe leaded gas would be good?
Well, Trump didn’t win Iowa in the Primary because he stood by the farmers and supported the corn subsidies. He did carry the farmers votes though.
Ted Cruz was honest and said they needed to end. Cruz won Iowa.
Well Trump is now President and he is standing by what he promised the farmers.
I was a Cruz supporter, but backed Trump the moment he secured the nominations.
What I like a bout Trump is he keeps his word, even if it’s for a program I am against, he is a man of his word.
It is a waste of time to try to educate the urbanites. Ask them what the corn carryover was from last year. They are pathetically ungrateful in this regard and just like libtards. Corn sold for $2 a bushel in 1950, and now the cash price is $3.20 a bushel. Skyrocketing inflation because of ethanol.
They also confuse the RFS which requires renewable fuel to be blended into the transportation fuel mix with some kind of fictional “mandated use”. There is no regulation on consumption, if you don’t like ethanol, just go to www.pure-gas.org and find a station near you that sells gasoline without any ethanol. Driving thru western Virgina a while back they seemed to be on every corner!
The RFS does not mandate anything to consumers. Everyone is free to purchase bio or petro fuels as they wish.
I have several small engines that have run on it for well over a decade. So don’t use it.
Come on out and I’ll introduce you to some agribusinessmen who have tens of millions of dollars invested in land, equipment, payroll, and input costs whose return on investment is largely dependent on factors like the weather that are beyond their control, and we’ll see how your big talk about them being welfare queens goes over.
Idiot.
