At least six people were killed and 15 were injured when a truck driver deliberately mowed down people in lower Manhattan Tuesday afternoon, officials tell News 4 New York.
Sources initially said they were responding to a report of at least five people shot near West and Chambers streets in Tribeca, but officials say their investigation now shows the injuries may have come from the truck crash. Police sources tell News 4 that a box truck driver was traveling the wrong way down a bicycle path, injuring several people. The box truck then collided with a Home Deport rental truck, and the box truck driver got out with what now appears to be a fake firearm. He was then shot by police. He's in custody.
A box truck driver zoomed the wrong way down a bicycle path, mowing down several people, sources say. The driver then got out with what appeared to be firearms.
Witnesses told News 4 they saw the driver running around with the apparent guns.
He was then shot by police, according to sources. He's in custody, police say.
Students from the top-ranked Stuyvesant High School and other witnesses in the area tweeted that they'd heard gunshots. A message has been left with the Department of Education.
A large number of police vehicles could be seen near West Street and Chambers Street in Tribeca, which is near a community college, Stuyvesant High School, and a few blocks north of the National Sept. 11 Memorial.
According to audio recorded by the service Broadcastify, the NYPD cleared the area around the truck to bring in bomb squads shortly after the violent episode.
Box truck on Chambers and West, we need that area cleared, said one officer. We need everybody away from that truck.
Both Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo were headed to the scene.

Another mucking fuzzie. No surprise there. Past warnings were ignored. Will happen again and again.
Praise the lord, he’s ok!................
Look at an aerial photo of the scene if you can find it on Google Map (do a search on the intersection of Hudson and Chambers Streets). The bike path isn’t one of those lanes you see running along the side of a street. It’s a two-directional path in its own right-of-way that is separated from Hudson Street by a landscaped median. There’s no way a truck gets onto that path without someone deliberately driving it there.
If.....If six are dead then you have at least six with with broken bones and serious injuries.
Wonder where Chuckie isn't looking for a Camera?
What?! News reports in NYC are claiming the gun was fake.

Tell the MAyor it ain’t guns— but Liberalism needs controlled. This does not sound like any right wing Christian but sure sounds like ISLAMIC TERRORISM to me.
Home Depot rental truck.
Seriously?
I’m not trying to be funny, but does the direction of travel even matter for a box truck driving on a bicycle path? WTF?
Then again, I suppose if you are driving a box truck, ANY direction on a bike path is the “wrong way”.
Ping.
...to offer congrats to the box truck driver and a selfie
Let me hazard a guess. The perps name is Abu Sa’ad Mohammed.
5.56mm
Meanwhile Home Depot will be sued for renting the truck.
Nuts.
It was a matter of time. Trucks make better weapons.
Clapper is on WABC radio now being interviewed. And they are interviewing another witness, a guy who was in the area at the time. Suspect had 2 guns in his hands. He didn't hear anything the guy said, who others said was "yelling" and running aimlessly around.
