Weve all read the stories, heard anecdotes, and seen it spewed over the mediathat Trump voters are all the same. They all have the same motivations, right? Not really. In fact, the Trump coalitions views on economics and government are quite diverse. You notice GOP consternation about Trump bashing congressional Republicans from time to timethats not by accident. Most voters view Trump as an independent rather than the head of a major party. In fact, new polling shows that Trump is actually more popular than the GOP leadership in some key counties for the 2018 midterms. Not really a shocker to some, I knowbut it undercuts the argument that Trump is a cancer to the party. So, who are these voters that back the president?
In June, the Cato Institutes Emily Ekins found 8,000 voters to participate in the Democracy Fund Voter Survey and found that there is no such thing as one type of Trump voter. In fact, a good chunk of the Trump base is made up of economic progressives. The breakdown on Trumps coalition is broken down into five groups: free marketers, staunch conservatives, American preservationists, anti-elites, free marketers, and the disengaged; 31 percent are staunch conservatives, 25 percent are free marketers, 20 percent are American preservationists, and 19 percent are anti-elites. Five percent are described as part of the Disengaged.....

LOL
“I am a Staunch Conservative / Free Market guy. So much so that I did NOT vote for Candidate Trump. I felt that he was going to be another RINO once he got to Washington. I have to admit, so far, I pleasantly surprised.”
A post we will NEVER see from the alleged freeper whose mindless hatred, intolerance and incessant personal attacks on anyone here who supported Trump convinced me that Trump was the right choice, and that he would win.
Thank you, CatherineofAragon!
We are one. :-)
I agree.
This list is only for Trump supporters, so I don't think you'll find the Limited Government Constitutionalist on the list.
I think they would largely be in Staunch Conservatives & Disaffected groups, with a smattering in others. One of the nice things about a military career is that there are relatively few liberals to deal with, especially in those forces that actually deploy into combat.
I just want laws equally enforced. Proof that they are would be Hillary Cliton in prison.
Optimism is good, delusional, but good.
That explains it. Trump got the dingbats.
Oh, that's different. I didn't realize that your feelings were such an authority the true political environment across the country. So the very significant "I'll hold my nose and vote for Trump because the alternative is so dreadfully unthinkable" crowd is meaningless compared to the genuine grassroots you could feel around you. OK. Don't stop believin'.
5 types?
I’d say there are about 62 million types. And that number continues to increase.
Bkmk
LOL. Awesome.
So in other words you are admitting to being politically tone deaf.
“Im a free marketeer inside the USA between the 50 states. Outside the USA, not so much if not at all. Which category is that?”
American. I seem to fit that type too.
Id say there are about 62 million types.
The article reminded me of one of my favorite sayings:
“There are two types of people in the world: Those that lump people into two types, and those that don’t.”
i admit to basing my analysis on data rather than feelings.
Breakout of branch and era of service.
Vietnam veterans, my group, are stereotyped as drug addicted and PTSD plagued social dropouts.
In reality, we are better educated, healthier, use less drugs, are more economically comfortable and are more engaged in successful long term family relationships than our non-veteran peer group.
Speaking for my circle of friends that are vets, we are 100% Trump supporters because traditional American values are our most important criteria.
You mean you put love of country above love for increasing the profit margin? How quaint.
They are missing the “I would set a MSM journalist on fire before voting for Hillary” voters. :-)
