Despite Mandalay Bay shooter Stephen Paddock’s history of high-stakes gambling, he had no known gambling debts, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Tuesday.
And, contrary to published reports, Paddock’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, told investigators in Los Angeles she had no concerns about his mental health.
In an extensive interview Tuesday with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Lombardo clarified those details and provided new information about the Oct. 1 shooting that killed 58 concertgoers and left nearly 500 injured.
The sheriff said investigators have made contact with Paddock’s entire “family tree,” including the shooter’s two ex-wives. Their conversations have shed new light on the shooter’s upbringing but have yet to answer the most daunting question: Why?
“We may never know,” Lombardo said. “All those things that you would expect to find, we have not found.”

I had read, at one point, the total was 59 people killed. First, the total was 58, then 59, now 58 again? What happened to the 59th person? Just a miscount?
So maybe they are feeding us more BS. This is the article I read it, notice how they say “We may never know why he did it.”

This incident is probably going to generate even more “theories” than the assassination of JFK. The “grassy knoll” was probably the most egregious of those conspiracy scenarios, and has even less credence that a second shooter from a different location at Mandalay Bay.
How would the “second shooter” have gotten out when police had already swarmed the location from where the shots were fired? One possibility is that the escape was not down to the ground, but UP, remaining hidden for several hours or even a couple days, then simply walking out.

That, or a second shooter could have worn a hotel staff maintenance outfit.
In the past, the code words "we may never know" have been used to signify that "the investigation has turned to a direction that we are not allowed to go". I would be more comfortable if Lombardo had said "We have uncovered no information that the shooter ever was associated in any way with Islam". After all, the shooter made trips to the middle east.
It is very important the media asks the right questions, regardless of political correctness.
Why am I cynical? Because I pay attention and read between the lines.

I wish I could remember the number of times people stated he had yuge gambling debts! Over and over people kept repeating that meme with NO evidence. They just ASSumed it.

The hotel is not owned by the saudis. Rather by a very astute businessman who comes from Saudi Arabia.
