Known as The Bald Eagle as much for his sturdy leadership as his prematurely receding hairline, Tittle played 17 seasons of pro football. He began with the All-America Football Conferences Baltimore Colts in 1948 and finished with the NFLs New York Giants. He played 10 years in between with the San Francisco 49ers, but had his greatest success in New York, leading the Giants to three division titles in four years in a remarkable late-career surge.

RIP. Another piece of my childhood enters the history books.
Great player, enjoyed watching him, RIP.
What a great player.
RIP Mr. Tittle!
From the NFL’s golden era....never to be repeated.
R.I.P., 14, R.I.P.
His biography says he was suffering from severe dementia at the end of his life. It is a blessing for some. So glad the greats of my childhood are gone and dont have to watch the Pampered Princes disrespect the country that allows them their pampered status.
When your name is “Tittle”, you grow up tough.
I wish I could have seen him play. I read about him when I was a kid. He sounded like one cool dude. And, he somehow survived CTE!
Superhero!
It was a really BAD day for Giants yesterday,
A little before my time, but I’ve read he was awesome. RIP.
Is that all that unusual for somebody at the age of 90?
Just saw you post, after mine.... Maybe, YA didn’t “survive CTE” all that well?
At least, he has some peace now.
RIP
Can you imagine the years ahead with the losers today’s kids look up to?
Man, it’s going to get ugly. Heck, it already is.
That idiot that plays Captain America has a head with nearly nothing inside.
RIP.
Around 1987, I was working for a TV repair shop making house calls. One call took me to a rural location. When I finished working on the TV set, the customer asked me if I knew who his next door neighbor was.
“You ever heard of YA Tittle?”
Being a long time football fan, of course I did.
He escorted out of the house and that’s when I noticed his neighbor’s mail box with the name “Tittle” on the side. I looked at my customer with a “you gotta be kidding me” grin.
Then, he introduced me to the fellow working in the yard. Y. A. Tittle. I restrained my urge to go all fanboy and just said something like “nice to meet you.”
Just an old guy working in his yard.
‘I was a teen living in the NYC area back then, and Tittle was considered a god.’
I was a teen then too, though I liked the old NY Titans...those Giant teams were great, Tittle, Robustelli, Katcavage, Gifford, Huff; those were good days...
Frank got rolled........ouch.
Funny you mention the riots. I was a cheerleader at Madison High School, and we were supposed to have a car wash that Saturday. The Head Cheerleader was black, and called me to tell me they'd cancelled the car wash because "it looked like rain." I didn't realize until later that the real reason was the riots. I don't remember any school closings over it, even though the high school was in the black part of the city. We never had any race problems at the school when I attended it from 8th to 12th grade (1960-65). They eventually tore down the school. I moved away from Rochester in 1972, and only went back for family, which are all gone now.
professional football when it was a real American sport....
Me too. Also saw John Brody the first Quarterback the Niners had.
