Las Vegas Shooter Gambled With At Least $160K In Recent Weeks
NBC News ^ | 10-03-2017 | by Tom Winter, Pete Williams and Andrew Blankstein

Mandalay Bay shooter Stephen Paddock gambled with at least $160,000 in the past several weeks at Las Vegas casinos, according to multiple senior law enforcement officials.

There were 16 separate Currency Transaction Reports, or CTRS, filed for Paddock in recent weeks. The Treasury Department and the IRS mandate that casinos have to file the reports for "each transaction in currency involving cash-in and cash-out of more than $10,000 in a gaming day."

The reports don't show whether Paddock won or lost or both on the days in question. They do show that on same days there were multiple transactions.

A source familiar with the investigation told NBC News that Paddock was a frequent player "with the highest status" at Caesars Entertainment properties in Las Vegas.

According to the company's website, the top level for gamblers is Seven Stars Tier Status, which is by invitation only and subject to alteration or cancellation. Privileges include comped rooms, room upgrades, player credits, and access to "signature experiences."

Paddock lost a slip-and-fall lawsuit against another Vegas casino, the Cosmopolitan Hotel. He still owed $270 in court fees when he killed himself and 59 other people Sunday.

Security video from the Cosmopolitan Hotel shows Paddock slipping and falling on Oct. 30, 2011, as he walked from a hotel shop towards a high-stakes area in the casino. Paddock said he had slipped in a puddle of liquid and sued the hotel in 2012, initially asking for $100,000, according to the attorney for the hotel, Marty Kravitz.

Paddock reported incurring more than in $32,000 in medical bills, and also wanted to be paid for pain and suffering. Security video shows him getting medical attention and then being stretchered out of the casino.

"They always ask for a lot more than they can get, but he got nothing," said Kravitz.

The arbitrator ruled in favor of the casino and dismissed allegations of negligence as "without merit."

It says they just record transactions of $10,000 or more....but don't define win or lose.

Sounds more like his last meal....

Of course there will be an autopsy and of course they will check ALL maladies etc.

You guys need to chill out with this wanting and needing instant gratification.

The Offender is dead.

There is no need to rush this investigation.

Relax, and let the investigators do the investigating.

You are so right. He was a pro. These guys flow massive currency and its all tracked at each casino. I speculate that he reserved his room for free months ago having scouted this vantage point out last year. By the way — what was the date of his reservation? This might have bearing on premeditation ( which really is not in question) . That room was “comped” easy. BUT WHEN?? Ill bet it was a YEAR earlier.
One question I have is how did room service react to 4 days of do not disturb signs? Is there not a policy on that. I really think the Mandalay Bay will be sued for negligence here when the video is reviewed. This was too wierd. 23 guns????? thousands of rounds of ammo. Someone had to have said something to management.

I have been telling friends the same. He was laundering money. Likely for foreign interests. I can also place him in Dubai, UAE in late May, 2016 with 100% confidence for whatever that is worth.

I’m told there’s an old trick where you show you’re gambling a lot by sending money back and forth so you get a free room.

"Las Vegas Shooter Gambled With At Least $160K In Recent Weeks..."

..... He also wired $100K to his beloved girlfriend in the Philippines a couple of days before the shooting. Why the Philippines if she was coming right back to the US? Ransom?

I guess if it were all liquid and I was just living off the interest (assuming anyone actually paid a decent interest rate anymore on savings) THEN I might feel pretty well off.

My mother back in the last 70’s had a CD with a 20% interest rate... I would live like a king for the rest of my life with an interest rate like that.

I wonder if he got hooked on pain killers, and if this contributed to a deteriorating mental condition.

"right, same here. Its amazing that a million bucks don’t mean crap theses days."

But $100,000 means a LOT in the Philippines. On that, you can buy a house and live for several years.

same with my folks. They lived off CD interest.
Found some old paper work and this 50 acre farm purchased in 68 had a 28000 mtg on it. Both folks work for ma bell so they were good on the cash flow end to meet that but not the total net asset thing and then were land rich and cash poor.

Addicted gamblers don't gamble to win. They get sucked into the environment. What's upsetting to me is that someone could gamble so much in such a little time and there's no concern about his mental state.

I was on a cruise a few years ago where I shared a dinner table with rational-seeming, educated, at least average intelligence ladies, senior citizens. The last evening, one of them was saying how excited she was that the cruise line gave her a FREE cruise to be taken in the not-too-distant future. One of her friends nudged it out of her.....she had lost $3000 on the slots, and had a pretty healthy bar bill. That's an anecdotal example of just how detached from reality even sane people can become in that environment.

The could easily stayed packed and concealed until he set them up a couple of hours before the shooting started.

I get a kick out of the folks who state this took meticulous planning.

Lets see.

He moved guns into the room.

He loaded the weapons.

He knocked out windows.

He started firing.

Few people could master these steps... /s

Such wizardry... /s

Was it meticulous planning to bring around 20 guns into the room, when only two to four would be used?

Was it meticulous to plan an event which would result in your own death?

This was a nut job, who did simple things anyone could, to carry out a very evil act.

Let’s not give the guy credit for being meticulous. B.S.

When did he reserve the room? Had he stayed in that room before? Are there concerts across the street frequently? He took a hammer! That was a lot of hauling. I wonder if he carried it all up himself or if he had help.
