This Is Not the NFL
Thought Crimes ^ | 9-26-17 | Chris Shugart

Editor’s Note: Feel free to copy, paraphrase, or edit any of the content of this letter. I encourage anyone who wants to make their displeasure known, to contact the NFL, their sponsors, and their media outlets. Let them know what you think.

Dear NFL, (Sponsors, and Media associates),

I regret to inform you that until further notice, I won’t be attending any NFL games, view or listen to your broadcasts, nor read, listen to, or watch any NFL related media. As a decades-long football fan, it’s a choice I don’t make casually.

This kneeling thing has gotten so far beyond tolerable that it’s made pro sports unwatchable. So I’m no longer going to attend games that include unsolicited political demonstrations. Whether it’s in person or via TV, radio, online, or print, I can’t be a spectator of what has become out-of-control stupidity that the NFL should have addressed well over a year ago.

I don’t dispute the players’ rights to express their opinions, but let’s not forget that it’s a two-way street. These protesters, and those who support them, must understand that I have a right to respond to their demonstrations in whatever manner I choose. And so I have.

For all I know, some athletes may have some valid points. But frankly I don’t care. There are more than ample numbers of public forums where political views can be exchanged. Pro sports shouldn’t be one of them.

I’m pretty sure that my reaction isn’t some lone voice in the desert crying out. I’ve seen the public outrage, and it should be taken seriously. Whether our perspectives are valid or not, it doesn’t matter. What should matter is whether or not pro sports franchises can remain viable when they’ve alienated a large segment of their audience.

It would be a shame if the NFL crumbled under the weight of politically driven policies. I hope you take an honest look at how these various protests could be adversely affecting your brand. I see a potential PR disaster from which you might find difficult to recover. NFL games shouldn’t be used as soap boxes for athletes who want to promote their personal political agendas. That’s not the NFL.

Sincerely,

Chris Shugart

We can help to put down the anti America National Felon League with two simple steps this week!:

Disney owns ESPN!

What networks/? does Disney own?:

Disney/ABC Television Group. Disney/ABC Television Group operates Disney’s broadcast television, cable television and radio businesses. ...
ESPN, Inc. ...
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts U.S., Inc. ...
Lucasfilm Ltd. ...
Marvel Entertainment, LLC.

If freepers are really serious about this issue, they can do two things this week:

1. Cancel/cut their cable and go to a good internet to stream the tv shows they watch. Disney/ABC/ESPN and the above are owned by Disney. Each month they get a huge share of your monthly cable bill. Cut the cable, and they lose that monthly bite out of your bill. You will save a lot of money each month.
2. Use Sling Blue TV for streaming the channels you will watch. Sling Blue does not carry ESPN or Disney. So, again the evil Disney/ESPN/NFL gay hate America liberals get nothing from you.

Talking tough and posting pompous threats are cheap and not effective. Pulling their economic plug is like using a laser guided smart bomb to destroy their financial arms.

If you really want to smack/hurt ESPN/NFL/Disney just do #1 and #2 above this week.

You will save a lot of money each month!

You're a bit more dignified than I would have been. I would have added the following at the end:

I will still, however, retain a strong rooting interest in the [INSERT TEAM NAME HERE]. If I hear a tragic breaking news story of an airline crash somewhere in the United States, I will be rooting for it to be your team plane.

These “kneeling “ protests carry all the sound and fury of a “hashtag” and, of course signify nothing.
Who does “kneeling actually help. Pretty much no one.
What will be the outcome? Not unity, that’s for sure.
There’s a reason these folks were on ATHLETIC scholarships. Suddenly they have become great thinkers? I don’t think so.

It’s not like they take a knee during a play or during the shooting of a commercial.

They take a knee and dishonor all of us during the national anthem.

Roger Goodell is going to find out really fast what happened to Target Corporation and Kellogg’s, Incorporated when they took their unpopular political stances. And it won’t be pretty as TV viewership of the NFL declines 30% and stadium attendance drops 25% or more.

I get your points, but make it a shorter letter.

And no, I don’t think many would agree that they might have valid points. They get paid millions, what have THEY done to improve conditions in the ghetto?

A bunch of hypocrites.

The NFL should just cut to the chase and do a stadium deal and franchise move with North Korea. The NORKS are big fans of anti-american displays and pageantry, and will no doubt lap up what the NFL now produces.

The Pyongyang Steelers!

Us college football vans better put our colleges on notice that if this happens the same results will be felt.
