We know, to the best of our senses and instruments, that the universe exists. How did it come into reality 13.8 billion years ago? In other words, what caused the Big Bang?
Roughly speaking, there are two possibilities: nothing caused the universe to come into being or something triggered it into existence.

A SATANIST might.
The first words ever articulated: “Fiat Lux”
And like any Fiat, the whole universe has needed to be in the shop every week or so ever since...
Yep.
Just saw this thread. Your reponse, verbatim (not that it was very long) went through my head. I’m so glad it was the first response. Good on you.
Time is not understood and may never be.
Yet we all know what time is, at least until we are asked to explain it!
“Who created God?”
Why did God “have to be” created? Who made that rule?
The Universe cannot be the cause of its own existence. The cause is something outside of the Universe, which is called God.
St Thomas of Aquinas says it better.
God is outside of the chain of cause-effect in which we live. Anything in the chain cannot have started the chain.
The need for bacon.

The desire to experience pleasure is a as good an explanation as any at this point.
I hope so, otherwise I’m in deep s**t.
The number 42 was somehow involved. But we will never know because we don’t know the question.
Yet it figures prominently in both Special and General Relativity. It must be real.
;)
How about both?
Too far beyond our comprehension, we have millions of years of evolution to go before human minds reach the necessary capacity to find the real answer. Maybe it isn’t going to happen in our present life form. Maybe the Universe is there because it is there and we are here because we are here? Does the question need to be answered? None of us will ever know, we can only use our imaginations until we die. The answer is too far into the future and our crystal balls are not powerful enough to see it.
We are constrained by our physical bodies and their limitations. That is why some of us believe that, when we transition to our spiritual bodies and shed the physical, all of our questions will be answered.
The Word.
Either the Universe has existed for eternity ot it had a beginning. The vast majority of scientists believe the latter. According to the Laws of the Conservation of Energy and of Matter, neither energy nor matter can be created or destroyed, only transformed. Of course, since ‘Trinity’, we know that matter can be changed into energy however, the sum total of all matter and energy has not changed since the beginning of time. Of course, ‘time’ was created at the same instant that the Universe was created. The Creator of everything, I call God, Jehovah, YHVH.
Of course, asking your question, you run into the same issue. If someone ‘created’ God, like the Mormons believe, then the question becomes ‘Who created the Creator of God?’. This creates an infinite progression and to solve it, you STILL need a ‘First Cause’. So, unless the Universe has always existed, there MUST BE a ‘First Cause’. I call the ‘First Cause’, God. As I find nothing irrefutable in the Bible, I choose to believe what God tells me, that He is the Creator and that there were none before Him. If there is anything PROVEN wrong in the Bible, then the whole thing needs to be tossed out.
Who created the illusion?
Just looking around this place, the creator has to have been That kid playing in his Mana’s basement
