HOUSTON (KTRK) -- At least one city leader is questioning the Red Cross's choice of hotels while coming to Houston to help with Harvey relief.
City Councilman Dave Martin dubbed the charity the "Red Loss." He made the point last week at city hall, claiming he hadn't seen the charity in his district.
Five days later, they still haven't shown up in Kingwood, Martin claims.
Flood victims like Ronald Leggett, who live in Kingwood echo Martin's complaints.
"I haven't seen them," Leggett said. "I've been here almost every day."
But that's not what really has Martin upset.
Some of the luckiest Red Cross volunteers are staying the night at the St. Regis Hotel, one of the city's finest 5-star places to spend the night.
ABC13 Investigates found Red Cross vans parked outside the hotel along the street in an area marked for limousines over the weekend.
The Red Cross admits it had 20 volunteers staying there for days on end, due to "limited availability" they say, in the Houston area.

I know of a charity that sends 100 percent of what you donate to the relief effort.
One of the best ways to make buckets of money is to operate as a “non-profit”. Those organizations have money out the wazoo and the big shots are totally loaded. Because they make no profit, you see.
On the flip side, you can open up a business and try to answer a need in the marketplace, satisfy your customers, and try to make a little money over and above your expenses — you know: try to make a profit. But an awful lot of people who try that end up poor.
Profit is tough.
Non-profit: that’s where the money is.
Bet it doesn’t rhyme with “lead dross.”
Nope.
Yep - and the Red Cross is very secular and rigid with their protocols.
The brass gets overpayed and no Christians need apply.
A friend who literallly has only the clothes on her back was denied for the 400. Disaster relief money that the REd Cross says they are making available. What a joke.
Check out their room service tabs. Likely not grilled cheese sandwiches.
Priests enjoy sex. What’s the difference?
The NFL was “non-profit” until recently. Billion dollar superbowl, 10,000s of thousands of unpaid volunteers.
years ago I had a friend whos parents were high up in the local red cross management structure according to his dad the higher you went in the structure the more entitled the management was. his dad was indisgust of his boss’s on the national level.
I guess we have forgotten about the money the Red Cross collected for 9/11 most of witch was sent elsewhere like the Red Crescent (Muslim equivalent). Non profits (forget the non) are all a tax exempt scam except for the truly Christian (Samaritan’s Purse). Most money goes straight to the top with obscene bonuses, six digit salaries, four star living and investing. Let’s not forget the fact they are ALL high strung liberal.
FYI

To make a comment like that shows a lot about you.
So typical of Red Cross. They don’t care how much hard-earned donation money they throw away on overhead. They don’t care. Just whatever happens to be left goes to those in need. They don’t make any effort whatever to maximize the amount that passes to those in need. They don’t care.
Thanks for posting. I am done donating to Goodwill. I would throw stuff away first before I will donate it to them.
And THAT is why I won’t donate to the RC.
IIRC, there was quite a controversy over the Red Cross and the 9-11 contributions.
Please name said charity.
This is an atrocity and inexcusable.
If anyone is donating to the Red Loss, this is what you’re paying for...luxury lifestyle for directors, not for the paltry ones in need. :-(
I am witnessing this devastation, first hand. We have so many friends in need. Shame on Red Cross.
