What could go wrong?
Even if it was legit. "So we lost/gave away your information, but for the low price of $XX.XX we can NOW protect your information."
I think there is a legal definition for this.....
I am hesitant to go to that link and check. I think they owe ALL of us who were impacted more than just protection but what good will some kind of free protection do if the info. is already in the wrong hands?
Isn't that blatant Insider Trading?
I’m thinking it must be a scam. I’ve never used Equafax services, but I did the check and it stated:
Based on the information provided, we believe that your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.
It “may” have been impacted. They would know definitively if it had been or not. Scam if you ask me.
This site is very suspect. By providing the last 6 digits of your SS #, you are essentially providing a key to your full SS #. The first 3 numbers are fixed by the state or territory from which it was issued. A very small universe of 3 digit numbers.
Makes me think of Obama’s amazing, incredible, out of this world database.
acronym of “bend over here it comes again.”
It checks by your last 6 of your SS number and your last name.
I also checked my wife, and it reported that she was not impacted.
I just looked at the link and it was the same one that I used this morning.
You can visit the Equifax homepage directly and there’s a blurb at the top of the page that’ll lead you to the check/impact site. The blurb is new as I checked last night for a statement from the company...and there wasn’t one yet.
Yes it does, like I am going to do that. Not!!!
It says MAY HAVE BEEN when I checked. Here’s what it said: Based on the information provided, we believe that your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.

Makes me really wonder and if someone already has my info, what good will this do to click and sign up?
Right...you’re telling me the smart thing to do is go to a site that just went up and give them the last 6 numbers of my SS?
Yep...I’m all over it.
If you have credit (good, bad, indifferent)...they have your info period.
So yes, your info could be stolen in the breach.
Go to equifax.com - they have a banner acknowledging the issue and a link from there leading to the same place. Appears legit.
bbb
That would depend on what your definition blatant. Common sense doesn’t figure in.
My son got “may have been impacted”-——I’m okay,so far.
I was impacted. Haven’t checked the wife or kids yet.
The offered protection plan should be in perpetuity as the “impact” will be forever.
So if I never used their services, how does ones info get into their database? I’m sure 143 million did not sign up for their service. That’s almost half of the entire population of the US.
Something does not add up here?
That is correct. You MUST do this. Otherwise we cannot guarantee that your personal information has been officially hacked and compromised. this is the only way to make sure you are truly screwed. Also it would be beneficial to have your bank account numbers handy. Our Nigerian operators are standing by to assist you.
