Ole Miss Greek Life Retreat Canceled After Banana Peel Found in Tree

A Greek life retreat scheduled to take place at the University of Mississippi was cut short last weekend after a banana peel was found hanging in a tree on campus.

Student Ryan Swanson admitted to tossing his banana peel into a nearby tree after he was unable to locate a garbage can. Shortly after he disposed of the peel, it was spotted by Alpha Kappa Alpha President Makala McNeil, a leader of one of the school’s historically black sororities.

Despite Swanson’s explanation, a report from the student newspaper claims that students left the retreat in tears after finding out that McNeil has discovered the peel. McNeil claims the students “didn’t feel welcome” or “safe” on campus.

I will admit to not reading the whole article.

Does it say why a banana peel in a tree is so scary? Does it represent something that is not obvious? Have I gotten so old as to not understand something in pop culture?

I am not going to spend a lot of time being confused...but I am now curious.

I went to a VERY liberal high school in the 1980's. One day, somebody found, not a banana peel, but a giant snake in a tree. A maintenance worker retrieved a shotgun and eliminated the snake.

I shudder to think what would happen today.

My guess is that the student ate the banana for lunch, tossed the peel because it was organic, biodegradable, good for the environment, and was the ‘green’ thing to do by a totally brainwashed climate change believer.....................

I thought this was satire at first. But it does bring back Geraldo Rivera’s remark that the price of bananas would go up in the US if we got rid of the illegal aliens in this country. It’s not a fixation on bananas with the left but a really strong affinity for stupid.
