Trump Rescinded Obama's Flood Risk Rules Before Harvey (Here it comes)
YahooNews ^ | August 27, 2017 | Harriet Sinclair

Donald Trump signed away Obama-era flood standards just weeks before Hurricane Harvey hit Texas in a bid to get infrastructure projects approved more quickly.

The rule signed by former president Barack Obama in 2015 had not yet come into effect but aimed to make infrastructure more resilient to the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels and flooding.

Those who backed Obama’s rules believed they would make people safer by putting roads, bridges and other infrastructure on safer ground, NPR reported, but Trump rescinded the rule several weeks ago in an attempt to speed up the time it takes for infrastructure projects to be approved.

I don’t support much govt spending but it is obvious that civil engineering on water and waste water is amongst the most worthy. The Dam in California, Katrina, Flint, etc. Drop the transfer payments and please invest in civil works. It is a basic duty of government.

I consider that a good thing. They can move ahead with much needed infrastructure building without years of red tape.

For heaven’s sake. When are the maniacs going to give it up? If those rule were in play, the delays would make rebuilding impossible.

If those Obama flood risk rules were in place 150 years ago, it would be illegal to build most of what is now Houston.

It is a basic duty of government.

But which level, eh? I live in NYS and we are busily bankrupting ourselves. Are the other 49 offering to pay for our infrastructure so we can continue spending ourselves into bankruptcy?

“Obama’s regulations meant roads, buildings and other infrastructure needed to be constructed to take climate change into account and be built to withstand the effects of such climate change, including rising sea levels in coastal areas.”

This flooding in Houston isn’t because of mythical rising sea levels and certainly isn’t caused by mythical man-made climate change.

It was a naturally occurring hurricane that loaded up with sea water and dumped it over the entire coasts of Texas and Louisiana. That is a big “rain storm”. And the rains went inland up to San Antonio and Austin.

This claim by the author is a stretch to make a political attack.

If the rule had not yet come into effect then whatever cancellation Trump signed could not have undone anything.

Yahoo cucktards gotta cuck. Meanwhile Houston mayor doesn’t even bother evacuating high risk flood zones given the warning of imminent disaster. Funny, sounds like NOLA all over again - a democrat made disaster.

Never mind that discretion on these manners is ceded to local and then state authorities. Yahoo won’t mention this of course.

From the link (bolding is mine):

"Failure to adopt the new standard could make communities ineligible for federal programs, including port development projects, hazard mitigation grants, flood control projects, Brownfields redevelopment, Community Development Block Grants, federally backed mortgages, and federal transportation projects."
