Gone With the Wind will be gone from The Orpheums summer movie series, the theaters board said Friday.
The Orpheum Theatre Group decided not to include the 1939 movie about a plantation in the Civil War-era South in its 2018 Summer Movie Series after feedback from patrons following the last screening Aug. 11.
As an organization whose stated mission is to entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves, the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population, the theaters operators said in a statement.
Memphis population is about 64 percent African-American.

Curses on you, you beat me to it.
You missed “Huckleberry Finn.”
Yes. That is pretty much what the dems are all about. Getting people hooked on government support, with the aim of getting their support at the voting booth. This way, they stay in power, feed their overgrown egos, and make a lot of money for themselves in after and later after retirement with book deals, speeches, etc, etc.
Yep. McDaniel was a damn fine actress too.
That’s pretty sad. I think the most interesting characters in the movie and book are the blacks. Mammy, Big Sam, and Pork are the most noble, except Melanie, maybe.
And therefore, since both are evil, they must be removed from the sight of any trembling snowflake. Since it is impossible to move the ground, we must therefore move the snowflakes away from the horrible, hateful, evil dirt that is forever stained with these memories. Canada is nice, and big, and suffers from no such stains. We will even pay for the moving costs, since they likely cannot pay for anything themselves anyway.
Meanwhile, enjoy...

I’m offended having to live in a world where everyone is perpetually offended. What happened to razzing each other for fun?

I grew up in the 30s and 40s and ethnic slurs were tossed around regularly.
No one cared,we just tossed one back.
We all grew up and moved on. That’s life.
.
Weren’t we told, ad nauseam, when some truly offensive art was presented (and often paid for with tax money), that the highest purpose of art was to provoke strong reactions, to make people think about uncomfortable subjects, etc etc etc? What happened to that notion? Oh yeah, I forgot... it doesn’t promote an anti-American agenda, thus it deserves no protection.
But we lost?
If looks as if "Gone with the Wind" is getting the treatment. It is being called racist, which will morph into "privileged white people hating black people." Then they will storm the theaters and not let anyone in. They they will beat them up to the applause of the fake media since violence to stop "hate" is OK.
Love through violence.
Downtown Memphis, if you can’t carry your gun, don’t go.
