CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago pastor has asked the Emanuel administration to remove the names of two presidents who owned slaves from parks on the South Side, saying the city should not honor slave owners in black communities.
A bronze statue of George Washington on horseback stands at the corner of 51st and King Drive, at the northwest entrance to Washington Park.
Bishop James Dukes, pastor of Liberation Christian Center, said he wants the statue gone, and he wants George Washington’s name removed from the park.

I refer to George Washington, the ONE Dollar. Also Andrew Jackson who decorated the $20.00. And don’t forget, it was Abraham Lincoln, on the $5.00 whose election precipitated the most costly war in our history.
Although I write this in sarcasm, I worry that there are those who may actually think it is a good idea.

POTUS should announce the immediate de-funding of the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial, just to be consistent. Problem is the media would take him literally and wet their pants profusely. But this dripping-with-irony statement would resonate with the vast majority of thinking Americans who see the logical conclusion of this madness.

On the other hand, George Washington did not like slavery. He did treat his slaves well. His houseman Juba is in the famous family portrait. Slavery was an inherited institution. Sort of like abortion is today. We can't just go into a Planned Parenthood clinic and shut it down.
The first draft of Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence had a section where he wrote about slavery being an evil institution. It was removed because the goal of the Declaration was to separate from King George. Slavery was something that was so ingrained that it was going to need a Civil War and a Republican president to remove it from the land.
These people know so little of real history ...

The behavior of your flock is so bad, pastor, that at some point in the future some attitude adjustments will need to be made with some familiar if unpleasant implements. A few statues are the least of your concerns.
Perhaps we should consult the good Rev. Wright.
