Oregon finds nearly half the Medicaid recipients checked in recent months no longer qualified

Oregon has determined it awarded Medicaid health benefits to more than 37,000 people during the past year who earned too much money or otherwise failed to qualify, new figures show.

That high number represents nearly half the Medicaid recipients whose incomes the state rechecked this spring and summer. It has come to light as the state health authority works through a backlog of eligibility checks caused by technology problems and the spike in enrollment under the Affordable Care Act.

The count surpasses predictions to the Legislature by agency director Lynne Saxton, who pegged the number at 32,000. And it almost certainly will climb higher, as the agency has another 31,000 cases still to check.

Historically, around 28 percent of Oregonians on Medicaid no longer qualify for the program at annual check-ins. Now, as Oregon works through its backlog, the rate of people being deemed ineligible is closer to 45 percent.

Oregon? Guess the ever benevolent assclowns running the show will need to change the quals to get these folks to remain eligible. I mean it’s not like you can just take it away now that they’re used to it.

Are no longer qualified or were never qualified? Suspect the latter.

What I'm wondering is, what do they do with these people? Keep them on Medicaid, but paying according to ability to pay, or put them on Obamacare? What a mess.

The Democrats are fine with fraud and theft as long as they get some of it and the people involved vote Democrat.

The purpose of the Democrat Party is to elect thieves to public office to give them access to the public treasuries in order to loot them.

"Historically, around 28 percent of Oregonians on Medicaid no longer qualify for the program at annual check-ins"

Understanding that some of these will have lost qualification during the year, a 28% error rate each year seems absurdly high but truly fitting for the socialist paradise that is Oregon.

This is not the heart of the problem here.

When the state is going to overstep its limited role and engage in charitable works with tax money, it needs to substitute something for the pity and compassion which evokes the generosity and kindness in humans which inspire them to be generous. This substitute is means-testing. A mindless and heartless mechanical set of rules which discourages those who feel dependent on such aid from becoming self sufficient.

But still there are those who have needs that exceed their means and who are in desperate need of compassion. If the government will not come to their rescue (with money from the tax payer) who will? Of course there are many many charities that Americans support founded to help. But it will never be enough to meet all the needs. We will always have the poor and the unfortunate.

So what is the answer? I see four alternatives:

The Leftist Way: One approach is to make the problem go away with the magic power of redesigning society through the power of government. This has the disadvantage of voraciously making the problems it tries to cure worse. But it has a great advantage to those who advocate for such changes....it allows them to appear to be generous without the cost of actually being generous.

The Avoidence Way: Another approach is to be frustrated and avoid the issue. Perhaps complain about the government trying to fix these things always leading to disaster. But after having so much of your limited resources confiscated for such failures, feeling you have given enough. This gives you a way to feel superior by complaining, and also an excuse not to be generous.

The Darwinian Way: To not concern yourself with people in need, and let nature take its course in weeding out those who do not adapt or are not as fit to carry on.

The Right Way: In this approach, you don't try to simply appear generous or appear like you have all the answers...you actually live generously and help.

The single best solution to the healthcare debate in the beltway is jobs and better jobs in an expanding economy.

You can’t report someone getting SS disability for fraud without giving all your personal info. I’ve tried several times but refuse to give them my info. That’s how they keep from doing their job in trimming the rolls.

Good news, means they are actually 200% over budget plus a few hundred ass clown payrolls after the idiots are fired.

Also there should be a few job openings soon for people who can find their faces wire their hands. A serious upgrade for State employees.
