A headline and an accompanying photo that went up on the top of the Drudge Report at 6 PM EST on Monday, July 24 grabbed a lot of attention. In bold black caps, the headline read: MSNBC Wins Week For First Time. The photo: A smiling Rachel Maddow, MSNBCs #1 prime time host of The Rachel Maddow Show. The link from the Drudge Report headline led directly to MSNBCs news release, the original of which is also all in caps: MSNBC Most Watched of All Cable Networks in Weekday Prime for 1st Time in Network History.
Befitting the importance of this development, Matt Drudge left the story up as his sites top headline until well into the next morning, for a minimum of six hours but possibly more like twelve. But was the prominence that Drudge gave it due to its real significance, or as click bait to draw page views from his largely conservative readership who would presumably be shocked to see their favorite cable news channel (Fox) apparently bested by the über left MSNBC?
In any case, the next day, July 25, Fox News, not to be outdone, released its own analysis of the same raw cable news ratings, provided by the Nielsen Corporation, with a startlingly different interpretation, also all in caps: Fox News Channel Continues to Dominate All Cable Networks in Total Day for 29 Consecutive Weeks. The FNC release had a subhead: FNC Also Outpaces All Cable Networks in Primetime for Ninth Week in a Row on Monday-Sunday basis.
So, how could both of these news releases with seemingly opposite interpretations of the same data be correct?

But who is still watching?
Demographics. One measure vs another in viewership.
Fox midday is liberal/mod russia crap.
Their evening lineup is weaker than it used to be.
2 shows worthy of attention are Dobbs and Hannity. Carlson sometimes. Five seldom. Martha never.
What’s Rachael going to do when the Russia scam falls apart?
Hasn’t Martha MacCallum replaced Megyn Kelly in her old FNC timeslot and is she any better than Megyn? I’m a little curious as I would have to fork out a pile of money to get that channel in my locale.
I only watch Fox & Friends and Hannity.
I'm getting better information off of guys Periscoping on their back porches while drinking Jack Daniels.
Several weeks ago I saw a CNN ad-graphic that showed CNN gaining double-digit percentages from the previous month for several of their programs.
[I wish I had bookmarked it, but I didn’t.]
Absent were actual numbers; thus, the percentages were intentionally misleading.

As for the so-called cable news wars —
Are these networks gaining ‘new’ viewers or are they just picking up viewers who are turning off the other cable news programs?
That makes a big difference. If they are splitting up basically the same pool over viewers, they really are not gaining much.
Folks who once tuned in to CNN have dropped off watching CNN and switched over to MSNBC. Simple, CNN has lost hundreds of thousands of viewers. If you were to take CNN out of USA airports, it would collapse. Thousands of viewers have left watching Fox News Channel, and have shifted to Conservative web sites and other TV news inputs, not MSNBC!!! Actually, Cable news TV is failing, and will continue that trend.
However, there is great hope for an all “Conservative” cable TV channel coming to life. Bill O’Reilly & Sean Hannity are heading that way. If this comes to life, you will see FNC & FBN lose many of their folks to these and other conservative opportunities!!! Rupert Murdoch and his nutcase liberal sons are killing the Fox Cable networks.
Actually, the “flawed Fox Channels” are besting both CNN & MSNBC combined. Morning Joe (viewers, 300,000) & Fox & Friends (Daily Viewers1, 1,100,000). Remember, there are 330,000,000 people in the USA. These are not good numbers.
CNN Airport is not included in ratings. It is a separate service not exactly like the CNN on home cable/sat.
Well, with the Murdoch boys emulating the other networks.......
“Hasnt Martha MacCallum replaced Megyn Kelly in her old FNC timeslot and is she any better than Megan?”
Martha gets slammed here for some reason. She is one of the good guys though. She never misses an opportunity to correct the record when one her Libtard guests spews their latest spin on facts.
Her ‘magazine’ show is in a tough spot though sandwiched between Special Report and Tucker.
I really like Martha’s show, when I watch. Lou Dobbs is my favorite.
I actually watch Fox Business Channel (Lou Dobbs). The only FNC show I watch all the time is Hannity. Shepard Smith, Dana Perino, Neil Cavuto, Karl Rove, etc., make me puke when I hear their voices and see their ugly hateful mugs!!!
YouTube has a few Fox streams.
Martha’s on at 7 pm; Megyn had the 9 pm lot when she left FNC.
Martha’s interview with KellyAnn Conway last night was pretty awful. It will be a while before I look at her show again.
Hey, Kas. This is great news. For Randy Madcow to beat FOX is just what those pukes deserve for going anti-Trump. I hope this cripples them.
But who is still watching?
We and many of our conservative friends/relatives pulled the plug on Faux News, early last year or at about or after election time.
We don't watch the left wing fake news cable stations, that now includes the Murdoch bros bastardized Faux.
So that overall pool of cable news watchers is dropping.
We have a few family members and friends, who watch Lou Dobbs and Hannity.
The final and really big question re so called nightly news/fake news: Does anyone with the internet need or want nightly fake news?
