Well “road kill,” if you want to “fix” Oregon, your 40 mile boundary is way short. Portland (Multnomah County) is about 100 miles from the Pacific, and from the data in the article, nearly all the cases of Gonorrhea are there.

I wouldn’t bet the ranch on that, there is a lot of real estate that falls into the Pacific everyday and if the Cascadia fault slips about 6 feet there will be a whole lot of liberals learning to swim real quick.

The U.S. military in Korea set up “Community Relations” officers in areas with nearby Korean populations, where it could be expected the U.S. soldiers would find willing sex partners.
The “community affairs” officer & the local mayors would be on a Community Affairs council. The locals would register the “sex workers” in their area. There would be periodic medical checks, and the local mayor would “send away” a sex worker who did not pass the medical check. They’d could return with a clean bill of health. There also was a system where a G.I. could, for regular payment, have a “temporary ‘wife’ “ that was his and his alone. If a G.I. got an STD his pass privileges were withheld until he was clean.
Everyone knows how STDs are spread, but civilian society is unwilling to treat the problem with all the government intrusion the military has been willing to use.

What is going unmentioned here, is that all of the listed Counties, are among those, with the highest populations of illegal aliens. In the rural Counties they are working in agricultural jobs. In the largest urban Counties Multnomah (Portland) and Marion (Salem) they work in entry level and semi-skilled jobs, supplemented with lots of welfare money and benefits. Unfortunately, many came from cultures with poor sanitary skills. Lonely, single young adult men, with money in their pockets and an itch in their jeans. Is anybody surprised another gonorrhea epidemic is upon us?

No. I was assigned to Alaska in the mid to late 80’s and we were told about it. The aspect of having quarantine islands is not a new one. These places of quarantine were called “Lazarettos” or “Lazerets.” All were named after Lazarus, the beggar from the Scriptures. The islands often doubled as leper colonies and sometimes penal colonies. The goal of the Lazaret was simple: isolate and quarantine those who were sick—or thought to be sick—until they recovered, or until they died.
There were operative islands as late as the mid 1960’s they would admit to. There was one in San Francisco Bay near Angel Island that was used to delouse immigrants.

The first of the islands being used near Japan started during the Korean conflict and went forward from there. To my knowledge, most of the active islands used for quarantine were not admitted about during their use.

OK! I amend my statement:
