Response time seems to be back to normal (for now).
Sorry, don't know why. The system was dragging all day, but started working normally for the past hour or so. Thought maybe John had found and fixed the problem, but he said no. He doesn't know either. We have several servers running at the data center and most of them have been running fine. Could be the network switch or the front-end router/server (but it seems to be working fine). The database server isn't even breathing hard. The webservers are getting bogged down occasionally, but don't know yet if that's the cause or a result of the problem. Could be someone messing with us. He's still analyzing logs and trying to track it down. May have to just start swapping out components to rule them out.
Btw, we're currently running with about twice the load we had earlier today when it was all bogged down.
Prayers up.

Is it possible that it is a cyberattack? I saved the url after someone said that was working just fine, which it was. When the system slowed to a crawl Friday afternoon, the url link also was slow.

Now, if COX would just get this solved,
Task ‘cox.net - Receiving’ reported error (0x800CCC92) : ‘Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR invalid user name or password.’, I've been suffering from it a week.

Hey Jim, if you and John want some help analyzing the logs let me know. Cyber-Security and Performance Analysis are two of my specialties.
I don't know if you and/or John have access to Splunk to help analyze the data, if not I can help there too.
BTW: I've been here on FR since '98, just trying to help in any way I can.

Jim, and software gurus- This is for your info., and it might be meaningless. I was trying to respond to thread by marktwain, (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3569656/posts) and I could not get a response for over a minute. Other threads were responding with somewhat of a delay, but not minutes, like marktwain’s thread. His seemed to be affected much worse. (I am in no way implying anything about the thread, except possibly where it resided on disc.) Finally got to respond at about 3:55.

BTW, please let John know that for some period during the slowness today, the DNS server responsible for freerepublic.com seemed to go non-responsive for bits of time and was un-pingable/dropping packets also. DNS Lookups on FR's DNS Server seemed to lag pretty badly.
From here I can't tell if that's the DNS Server itself, or something else like a router or switch in front of it. I don't know what your network setup and connectivity looks like so I'm just guessing here.
