California Requires Solar Panels on All Homes and Windmills on All Farms

The California Senate Majority Leader Kevin de León has introduced a new bill that would mandate the Golden State get all of its electricity from renewable sources by 2045. This replaces a law that was passed in 2016 that dictated that renewable energy sources be 50% of all electricity produced by 2030. This bill moves that requirement up to 2025 with the 50% edict and establishes the new 100% standard 20 years later.

What has not been widely discussed in the press – and buried in the details of the bill – is that all new homes and all homes sold must have solar panels as their source of energy. All apartment buildings with more than four units must install solar panels by 2025, and all commercial and office buildings must do the same. As for farms, they must commit 25% of their acreage to windmills.

Anyone reading the fine small print? Haven't checked with the ods makers in Vegas but I'm guessin' a lot of these assclowns will get re-elected. Will the state fine residents that fail to comply? Or just no permits if "alternate" enegy means are not included in the submission. So, if you want to sell your house you have to retrofit it with solar first. Yeah, that'll take a bite out of your take on the sale.

Exactly - they can do whatever they need to, to get their way. Ever wonder how the states manage to get wheelchair spaces in front of every business? They simply require a professional engineer to sign off on parking lot plans, knowing full well that the engineer will lose his license if he ‘forgets’ to tie up the best parking spaces for overweight women.

Just one example.

By coincidence, do you think a few of the legislators or their buddies are in the solar/wind business?

farms, they must commit 25% of their acreage to windmills.

To a certain degree, this is the State telling farmers that 25% of their land now belongs to the state and will be used as the state dictates.

Why don’t they mandate all solar and electric cars? Why not windmills on cars, as long as the car is moving there would be enough power to turn a windmill. Free energy, right!?

They can vote for it but it can’t really happen because the money isn’t there for it.

These little fools in Cali so want to be big cheeses for the Paris Climate Accords.

Who cares about the little guys.

Yeah it’s California and they are that nuts. My sister lives in a townhouse villa in socal and they making all residents pay $8000 one time fee for a retaining wall restoration or $13000 in monthly installments. This is on top of the outrageous $400 MONTHLY HOH fees.

I just wonder why the CA legislature is dragging its feet. They should legislate 100% green energy by, oh, January 2018, and order any utility lines that cross the state line be “opened” so no energy can flow into the state, from outside the state.

If I was a rich pig farmer living next to a Democrat stronghold I would install fans that looked like windmills....

That “..all homes sold..” has an interesting implication:

Is there enough roof space to hold enough panels to power the house, regardless of house size?

They can make laws, but cannot repeal the laws of physics.

Fossil fuel will be with US for a long time. Solar power for high current applications is insanity.

Wind generation is not as bad, but it is not there 24/7 and they are playing games with subsidies and maintenance costs. Phony Baloney.

How do they think that they’ll be able to pay for this?

Peeps, if you have an ounce of sense..... leave Cali NOW!!!

Not all homes are situated for solar even if they’re in appropriately sunny locales, and not all locales are sunny even in California. Problem 1.

Problem 2: not all farms are located in an area that gets sufficient wind to warrant a windmill or wind turbine. Even the most efficient low speed wind turbines just won’t work below 10 mph wind or so.

You can’t just legislate this stuff. I’m not opposed to either wind or solar, where it works. And, there are many places where it would work in California. But, a blanket edict via legislative or regulatory fiat is idiotic. Such determinations are highly individual based upon exposure, shade from other structures or trees, average cloud cover, average wind speed, etcetera.

Making a rule or requirement won’t make it work where it just won’t work.

F California. The most communists Democrats State in the Union. Solar panels are totally useless. Wait until a roof repair. Who is going to dust off the panels? These panels have a life and will need replacement. What happens in a hard storm and the panels produce nothing while they shut down power plants?

How come nobody has filed a law suit about their “view shed” being harmed? We passed through the Palmdale area on our trip home and the number of windmills certainly impacted the “vista”. And probably half weren’t turning either.
