Scientists have completed the first teleportation of an object from Earth to a satellite orbiting more than 300 miles away.
Alas, those of you expecting Scotty to beam them up soon will be sorely disappointed - the object teleported was merely a single photon.
While the experiment doesn't bring us any closer to teleporting matter, it is a huge leap forward for quantum physics.
The team of Chinese researchers behind the successful teleportation came together from a number of disciplines and included quantum physicists as well as rocket scientists.
In 2016, they launched a satellite called Micius, named after Chinese philosopher from the 5th century BC, from the southwestern Gobi Desert.
Micius is equipped with a super sensitive photon receiver which enables it to detect the quantum state of a single photon which is fired at it from the Earth.

Human teleportation brings up MASSIVE problems such as:
Teleportation is breaking one down to quanta - that is killing you — then sending those quanta elsewhere. Are you dead and a copy of you now revived? Does your soul follow?
Worse — why not just repeat the reproduction side endlessly? There could be millions of perfect clones of you. And if you did do any have a soul?
This isn’t as bad as the “does Data have a soul” question but it is a valid line of questioning.
Me too. File this in the Cold Fusion file.
i always had this exact problem with people dying on Star Trek. Wouldn’t a person’s most recent “pattern” be stored in the Enterprise computer? Why wouldn’t they just recreate him from that pattern?
And then it exploded...
Galaxy Quest
It’s not teleportation. It’s creating an exact copy of a photon at a distance. It’s more akin to sending the blueprints to a design. The original photon is still where it was when you started. It hasn’t gone anywhere.
Great question. My opinion is that teleportation of man is academic as man will never be able to do it - ever. We will kill each other off or some muslim will blow up the Earth before that could ever happen.
By soul ... do you mean spirit - the part of you that leaves your dead body and goes to heaven and lives forever? If so man can not create spirit. Man will never be able to create spirit.
which raises an interesting academic question - what does a duplicated man act like with no soul?

This is the equivalent to the Transporter Operator saying, “I’ve got a lock on you”.
99.9% of the job remains undone.
Physicist Dr. Edward Sullivan: “We’re going to have a real-ly big shoe with lots of soul.”
So how do they know it’s the same photon?
Do they hang a chain on its little photon neck with a tag that says “Hi! I’m the photon from Earth!”?
What if another photon that was closer just sort of hitchhiked onto the beam to get inside the nice warm space station?
Quantum entanglement and what Einstein called "Spooky action at a distance" is real. But its not what people think of as "teleportation".
The real part is that if two particles remain in a state of quantum entanglement, then however far apart they are the act of observing one immediately affects both of them. The speed of light is no obstacle.
This article I think is rather confused and misleading, or at best not clear. I would recommend anyone curious about the weirdness of Quatum Physics that doesn't yet know much about it to watch this first:
How do you teleport a bunch of particles?
Despacito.
Lots of use, lol
That’s what I thought when this was first discussed as possibility years ago. It may not actually be you that gets teleported, but a copy that is you in every way, but the original you was essentially vaporized (for lack of a better word) and destroyed. You would be dead, but a duplicated you would indeed think it is you and would be “you” to everyone else, but you are actually gone.
This would only really work for moving equipment, food, and supplies if it could even work at all...not for moving living beings.
Yuan.
Um, I've never seen an immobile photon. They tend to zip around at about the speed of light, don't they?
