...Had Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) not been at Wednesday’s congressional baseball practice, the scene would have been much more deadly, several witnesses have concluded. Scalise, who was shot in the hip, is currently in surgery.
Five people in total were shot, including a Scalise staffer and Capitol police officers, who arrived at the scene within three minutes, managing to subdue the attacker.
A shaken Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) explained to the media that because Scalise is the Majority Whip, he is one of few members of Congress who always travels with his security detail.

"Everybody would've died,” he emphasized.
Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), a doctor who also helped attend to Scalise’s wounds, concurred with Paul’s conclusions.
"[The gunman] would've had a tremendous advantage if we didn't have someone returning fire," he said.
Paul, Wenstrup, and other members of Congress rushed to help Scalise after police took down the shooter, attending to his wounds and calling his family.
The Capitol officers who have been shot are expected to survive.

The Democrat shooter didn’t bet on a security detail at a killing field baseball park where CCW was difficult. A baseball field is an optimum killing field. Fenced in, control of entry and exit and no cover for those on the field.
Things happen during surgery. I heard several times today that Big Corrupt Lying Media said that Scalese "will recover".
Is there a reason why you think he won't?

Open carry in Virginia is legal. And Virginia recognizes CCW permits for any state that recognizes Virginia CCW permits in return.
Just because he is in critical condition now doesn't mean he won't recover.
And of course I never said that he won't recover. It's the comment that "he will recover", that I pointed out is inappropriate.
This is a win/win for the left. America is dying by a 1000 cuts. The left needs to be taught a lesson. What I wish and what will actually happen are entirely different. This goes down most American’s memory hole within 24 hours.

Why was Scalis’ the only one there with armed protection?
This was a practice for a game with at least 11 guys on each side, all players are active comgressmen, senators. Why is this one guy the only one that had any protection around?
I mean I dont mind saving others asses when I save my own, but I know there will be bitching if I fail to save everyones, and it will piss me off further to know that the others failed to even consider such protection. (Sorry, Im just an asshole like that sometimes.)

Hey Sen. Rand Paul, be glad that the shooter was not ISIS trained or the damage would have been much worse.
Hopefully you politicians(and I include 9th circuit court judges), will pay more attention to the many muslims hiding among our citizenry.

When you are dealing with stupid they just don’t get it. Being shot at does wonders to clarify your mind, but these are really, really stupid people and they still don’t get it.
Isn’t there some dang laws about threats to people, especially leaders? Shouldn’t this set an example and start rounding up people online etc that make threats and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law!?

I just read that there are public venues in certain subdivisions in Virginia which disallow open carry of semi-auto rifles and pistols. Alexandria is one of these subdivisions. Only CCW would be available for self-defense.
Since this was a practice event at a baseball field (public venue), chances are slim to none that anyone other than the shooter would be armed. (He violated the law -- surprise, surprise).
If not for Scanlise's security detail, all these *Republicans* would be dead at the hands of a radicalized leftist. We've been treated to increasing levels of leftist radicalized rhetoric fomenting violence and assassination. Many need to be held accountable.
He fired a lot of ammo(30 shots?) to little statistical effect. I don’t think it would have been a “massacre.” The guy had a not terribly acurate rifle and was not skilled in its use. He knew how to pull the trigger. He did seem to have a large cap mag in it so he got the accessories but he apparently did not practice. For a while we can count on that from the left but groups of them are getting themselves some training. they will bring guns to gunfights.

If no one was firing back he would have been able to approach his targets until he could hit them.
I don’t think he meant to do that. He got himself a position and thought he would pick off targets but if he had not practiced a bunch with that SKS he wouldn’t and didn’t hit many and those he hit were by luck and spray. Firing that fast, for him, I doubt he was even aiming, just pointing at a group of people and pulling the trigger. If he had had a standard mag on it he would have been taken out after 7 shots, I think. Swapping out a mag on an SKS is not a quick move and loading it through the top is not real fast.
