DHS chief says he’s not deporting Dreamers, suggests Congress grant full legalization

Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly said Wednesday that his agents are not actively trying to deport illegal immigrant Dreamers, but pleaded with Congress to pass a bill granting them a more permanent legal status, saying only lawmakers can solve the problem. Mr. Kelly declined to take a position on whether the 2012 amnesty President Obama created for Dreamers is legal, but said the program, known in government circles as DACA or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is still in effect. He said “illegals” who have been properly approved for DACA will be safe from deportation, but said those who haven’t applied, and some who were approved despite having criminal records that should make them ineligible, will be deported. One of those Dreamers, Jessica Colotl, will be in federal court Thursday asking a judge to reinstate her DACA status after it was revoked earlier this year. Her case could determine whether DACA is a discretionary grant that can be revoked, as the Obama and Trump administrations have argued, or whether it’s a right enforceable by the courts. “When my DACA status was taken away from me, it basically took my life away,” Ms. Colotl said on a conference call with reporters Wednesday. “It was an arbitrary decision. I had been granted DACA before and nothing about my circumstances had changed.”

Yes, resources are finite.

Nothing wrong with giving priority to kicking out criminals.

It doesn’t take resources to end DACA. It takes a stroke of a pen.

And since Kelly doesn’t wield that particular pen, I’m not inclined to have a hissy over this.

been in the country by 2007, been 30 or younger as of 2012 and have pursued their high school diploma.
____________________________________________________

the ages don’t add up to the ages of little children...

so They don’t have to be “children” when they came here...

just be here...

If an illegal alien was 30 in 2012 that means he was 25 when he came here in 2007...

were his parents with him ???

If he came in 2007 but has a high school diploma by 2012, that means he wasn’t a little “child” when he came...

BTW when are the criminal parents going to be “rounded up”

the ones who put these po lil innocents in this evil predicament to where they needed to be rescued by unConstitutional laws ???

How come the parents get rewarded for the need for DACA ???

That’s right. Kelly can’t end DACA. So if Trump isn’t going to use the pen, then it is up to Congress..or as you say..prioritize.

Clearly criminals should get priority .

Here's a suggestion that might benefit the nation at large: Inform illegals that any who keep their noses clean and become fluent in English will go to the end of the deportation list. So that if we don't end up deporting them any time soon, hopefully more will dang well assimilate.

These people think they are more important than the people of the United States.

That's the truth. We have an illegal alien couple living in our neighborhood. They fornicated shortly after jumping the border in the late 80's. Birthed two "dreamers" who are now in their 20's. The kids are arrogant, rude, condescending and patronizing as hell, especially toward older U.S. citizens. The son has an arrest record, as does the father. They all work "under the table". And drive vehicles a lot newer than ours. Yeah, these invaders need Congress to give them more "rights".

Why should I be forced to pay taxes if FedGov™ does not enforce all laws? Why are tax laws more important than immigration laws?

I don’t understand why we can’t take a 2-pronged approach: deportation and assimilation. Both goals benefit the nation.

Not so fast on the firing. He is asking for clarification so he can do his job.

How does enforcing the letter of the law require any clarification? He can read can he not?

Well this is the reason I don’t get enthusiastic about anyone running for office. My saying has always been...
Send a good man to Washington and he becomes a politician.
I despise politicians.

If he's not going to get it done, we might as well go ahead and admit that US citizenship is a meaningless concept

Time for a new Homeland Security Secretary.

Is an "anchor baby" that has turned 20 years old actually an "anchor adult"?

DACA is on bannon’s white board. It will never get a checkmark.

People here are going to have to accept that..or raise hell and hope to make a difference...punting and saying we don’t have to say anything because he will do it later is not a good strategy.

I think it is too much of a hot potato for him to do it..but he isn’t going to do it if there is no outcry.

With all due respect — not you — but I get beat up a lot by a lot of members on Congress about why we’re going after DACA. We’re not, but my [response] back to them is ‘If you feel so strongly about it, you clearly do, why don’t you do something about it? Why don’t you work with your colleagues, both sides of the aisle, because there is a lot of support for this and change the law and I’ll follow the law.’

Thank you for posting the Brietbart article. It has the above direct quote from Secretary Kelly. To put it in context he is taking heat from Congrssmen that support DACA and he challenges them to change the law if they don't like the way things are being done.
