MARAWI CITY, Philippines (Reuters) - More than 160 civilians walked out of the besieged Philippines city of Marawi just after dawn on Saturday, deceiving Islamist fighters they encountered by hiding the identity of the many Christians among them.
The audacious exodus came after text message warnings that a major assault by Philippines aircraft and ground troops was imminent in the center of the southern city, where some 250 militants and more than 2,000 civilians remain trapped.
"We saved ourselves," said Norodin Alonto Lucman, a well-known former politician and traditional clan leader who sheltered 71 people, including more than 50 Christians, in his home during the battle that erupted on May 23 in the town of more than 200,000 on the southern island of Mindanao.
"There's this plan to bomb the whole city if ISIS don't agree to the demands of the government," he said, referring to local and foreign fighters who have sworn allegiance to the ultra-radical Islamic State.
Many evacuees told Reuters they had received text messages warning of a bombing campaign.

And I don't believe he needs our help to do it.
But, if he asks we should help kill them.
But, but - religion of peace who worship the same god...

Some of the civilians were stopped and asked if there were any Christians among them, said Jaime Daligdig, a Christian construction worker.
“We shouted ‘Allahu akbar’,” he told Reuters, adding that thanks to that Muslim rallying cry they were allowed to pass.
Those who fled included teachers from Dansalan College, a protestant school torched on the first day of the battle.
your point went over my head
Imo, the best and only support we should give is to do the best we can to cut the flow of personnel, money and supplies from the jihadiscum support networks into that area.
The Filipinos are tough enough to clean out the jihadiscum infestation on their own. It’s their country. I vote to give them the respect of allowing them to save it themselves.
“Imo, the best and only support we should give is to do the best we can to cut the flow of personnel, money and supplies from the jihadiscum support networks into that area.”
We can do that by giving them 50 advanced patrol boats and 50 helicopters.
I agree. They learn not to SUBMIT, stand their ground and force them out.
They may have said that a.a. phrase, but I feel assured they were really praying to Jehovah God for deliverance. Praise to Him and to those who assisted in the deliverance.
Can’t help but be reminded of the Cora Tenboom story where a Christian family shielded Jews and saved their lives during the height of Nazi persecution.
It is a wonderful thing to save people’s lives and give them freedom from horrid persecution.
Sometimes I like to hear the distant sounds of wave crashing
Other times a babbling brook
Perhaps a glistening forest full of butterflies
Or a settng sun upon an ancient landscape
But nothing brings more peace and tranquility
than observing mohammeds people tending
To their daily routines
Moros. Black Jack Pershing knew how to handle them.
It is a wonderful thing to save peoples lives
Amen!
It is a good sign that the some of the local muslims were afraid of Christian (Duterte) retribution enough to shelter Christians.
Now send the troops in to make it a memorable example to the rest.
As SecDef Mattis once said: “do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years.”
So they had to profess to be muslims to escape? I’m not judging, because I don’t know what I would do in that situation, but I pray God would give me strength to confess Him, even if it cost me my life. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Mark 8:36.
Father, in the Name of Jesus, please protect these Filipino people, from ISIS. I pray You forgive them, if they weaken, and give them strength. Help the non-muslims escape, and reveal Yourself to the muslims, that they would turn and be converted. In Jesus Name, Amen.
So now are they going to point out the ISIS rebels?
Probably, but they haven't been doing it. In the late '70s, I was in the town of Zamboanga, even further south on Mindanao on a press trip for travel writers. Reporters in Manila were amazed that could go that far south, as they were not allowed anywhere near the place. Gorgeous, but we were guarded every minute by "tourist guides" who were clearly commandos.
The local mosque had "mysteriously" burned to the ground recently, the Filipino people were surprised to see Americans, the "Moros" were sullen but restrained. Only later did I realize what danger we were in. The Philippine islands trail off into the Sulu Archipelago toward Brunei where territorial disputes have been going on forever with muslims and the Sultan of Brunei and may never stop.

He needs no help and it is none of our business.
Based Duterte needs to raze that city to the ground.
Black flag operation. no survivors.
this is the only way to deal with Muslims insurgencies.
pray also that good people find the will to do what must be done.
