Published on May 12, 2017 On May 12, 2017, the Show Me State became the 12th to successfully adopt the Convention of States Article V application to impose fiscal restraints, term limits, and other limits on federal overreach. Thank you to the thousands of COS Missouri warriors! http://www.cosaction.com
I agree. Both the 16th and 17th Amendments need to disappear imo.
The biggest problem with the country is not the federal government per se, but low-information citizens imo.
More specifically, such citizens unthinkingly abuse their voting power by using it to unconstitutionally expand the federal governments powers when they sell their votes to corrupt career politicians.
This is because many voters evidently do not understand that the feds have no constitutional authority to give the voters the social spending programs and politically correct rights that politicians promise to give them if elected.
In fact, candidates for citizenship should be required to prove that they understand the following Supreme Court clarifications of the federal governments constitutionally limited powers before they are allowed to become citizens.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added]." Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
We currently have a near perfect constitution. It is neither obeyed by government nor accurately ‘read’ by those who are suppose to use it to determine if it’s being followed.
We need to fix the Supreme Court and politicians who ignore the constitution .
If there is need for a gathering of states it’s to reaffirm the document and condemn those usurpers who currently run the swamp.
You do understand the trade deficit is a scewed measure yes? So if a company INVESTS capital in this country did you know that is a net export? Did you also know that farming and agriculture export millions in tons of food each year in order to derive an income? Did you also know that anyone overseas who purchases real estate to open business and employ people is also an export? Trade deficit I say again is not a measure of a nations value or wealth. Our problem isn’t the middle income jobs it’s a generation that FAILED on their own to stress importance in technology in its youth beyond a tweet. The generation has failed to keep up in times in which robotics replaces the line worker. I’m sorry but the days of assembly line and wishing for the return of thousands of jobs under a union of workers who in large part thought their jobs were lifetime positions free of innovation are over.
:)
Nice...
And now there are 12: AL, AK, AZ, FL, GA, IN, LA, MO, ND, OK, TN, TX
For a Convention of the States dedicated to Georgia's application language which would rebalance state and federal powers, the count is now 12 down, 22 to go.
For a Convention of the States dedicated to consideration of a balanced budget amendment, the count is still 29 down, 5 to go.

The amendatory process under Article V consists of three steps: Proposal, Disposal, and Ratification.
Proposal:
There are two ways to propose an amendment to the Constitution.
Article V gives Congress and an Amendments Convention exactly the same power to propose amendments, no more and no less.
Disposal:
Once Congress, or an Amendments Convention, proposes amendments, Congress must decide whether the states will ratify by the:
The State Ratifying Convention Method has only been used twice: once to ratify the Constitution, and once to ratify the 21st Amendment repealing Prohibition.
Ratification:
Depending upon which ratification method is chosen by Congress, either the state legislatures vote up-or-down on the proposed amendment, or the voters elect a state ratifying convention to vote up-or-down. If three fourths of the states vote to ratify, the amendment becomes part of the Constitution.
Forbidden Subjects:
Article V contains two explicitly forbidden subjects and one implicitly forbidden subject.
Explicitly forbidden:
Implicitly forbidden:

Such is the condition of the remains of our republic, it is our positive duty to peacefully reform our government so that it serves its designed purposes once again. There is little time. President Trump can only give pause to the radical Left’s march through our institutions and society. We don’t have a moment to lose.
As KenH pointed out, all good things are possible after repeal of the 17th Amendment, and impossible without it.
You know, i have to blame the opposition to COS on the public education system and the left wing educaters for instilling an attitude of hopelessness in every person that has been “ taught “ by them since WWII.
To restore sanity to our foreign commerce requires the restoration of sanity to the institution that ratifies commercial treaties.
To entrust such matters to a hundred or so knuckleheads with little talent beyond getting reelected is a recipe for disaster.
The 17th Amendment must go, and it won’t go without an Article V COS.
The Soros machine will kick into high gear. The pressure on legislative choke points, the speakers of houses, and senate majority leaders will be enormous.
"Rebalance state and federal powers" has some appeal, but it's not as good as rebalance citizens' rights vs. federal power AND state power.
But let's hope that the Article 5 Convention of States movement doesn't sputter because of disagreements amongst the petitioning states on what subject matter is to be in play.
Over 400 applications have been submitted. Where the call to convention?
Check out Federalist #85:
Alexander Hamilton: "By the fifth article of the Constitution, the congress will be obliged on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the states to call a convention for proposing amendments, which shall . . . The words of this article are peremptory. Congress SHALL call a convention.Nothing is left to the discretion of Congress. Consequently, all the arguments about the disinclination to change vanish."
Good
Why not? The Constitution was DESIGNED to be modified in this way. Why should we be afraid of a process that the framers intended for us to use?
