President Trump’s sudden firing of FBI Director James Comey is a matter that should deeply concern every American, regardless of party, partisan politics or ideological leanings.
The independence of our law enforcement is at the bedrock of our democracy. That independence, already grievously shaken under the brief tenure of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, is now shattered by uncertainty.
The firing of an FBI Director is always a very serious matter in normal times. But these times aren’t normal. Far from it. The Bureau is engaged in one of the most important and perilous investigations of this or any other presidency—the investigation of connections between the Trump election campaign and the Russian government.
The questions mount and the shadow grows darker. What were those connections? What did Mr. Trump know about them and when did he know it? How can the President explain the serious allegations against his former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn? And what is President Trump hiding in this regard? It’s imperative that the nation—We The People—get answers to those questions. It will take time, but the process must start now.
A politicized FBI is the last thing we need as we struggle through the maze of lies, concealment and ever-deepening mysteries. The last time a President fired prosecutors who were investigating him was Richard Nixon during the widespread criminal conspiracy known for short as “Watergate.” We all know how that turned out. In real ways, this potential scandal and coverup are much graver. We are talking about the very security of the United States and the sanctity of our republic.

For years, the disgraced CBS anchorman has referred to himself as a onetime Marine. That’s just not true. And now retired Gunnery Sgt. Gary Laweryson, commander of the Maine Marine Corps League and a highly-respected veteran’s advocate, is calling out the man he refers to as “Gunga Dan.”
“You cannot call yourself a Marine until you graduate from boot camp,” the grizzled gunny told MilitaryCorruption.com. “The record shows Rather was a wash out and was discharged as medically unfit “
AN EXPERT AGREES ON RATHER
Laweryson gets back-up from B. J. Burkett, a retired Army officer and author of the best-selling book STOLEN VALOR. “Rather never made it out of recruit training. He couldn’t do the physical activity,” Burkett declared. The exposer of many a wannabe and phony hero, says Rather was discharged as “medically unfit” on May 11, 1954.
Rather, who made a career out of criticizing others like former Vice-President Dan Quayle and President George W. Bush, for their questionable and controversial military service, until he was fired by CBS, is rather reckless to run a photo of himself in dress blues with the caption saying: “as a young Marine.”
That can be found in Rather’s latest book - “RATHER OUTSPOKEN” released in 2012.
WHAT IS THE REAL STORY HERE?
Rather has been vague about his time at the Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot back in the mid-1950’s, long before Danny boy found fame and fortune as the chief apologist for the discredited Warren Commission and - to this day - still espouses the absurd contention Lee Harvey Oswald was JFK’s “lone assassin.”
So far, Rather, who’s well into his 80’s and has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, has stuck to the story he left the Corps because it was discovered he’d had rheumatic fever as a child. Maybe that’s it indeed. Or, perhaps, he wet his bed or couldn’t hack the rugged physical training. We’ll never know the real reason Rather washed out until he chooses to sign a release and open up his entire military file to investigators.
What we’d like to have is answers to just two questions. We offer them to him here:
(1) — Did you complete training and graduate from Marine Corps boot camp, yes or no? (2) — How did you come to have a photo of yourself in a Marine dress blue uniform, complete with white saucer cap. Where was it taken? Is it an official Marine Corps photo?
We won’t hold our breath waiting for a reply, but assure the liberal icon we will gladly print whatever comments he chooses to make about this news article.
