TEL AVIV While the international community and news media focus on North Korean missile tests and the countrys nuclear program, one expert warned on Sunday that North Korea may be secretly assembling the capability to take out significant parts of the U.S. homeland via an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack.
Dr. Peter Vincent Pry is executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and is the chief of staff of the Congressional EMP Commission.
Speaking on this reporters talk radio program, Pry pointed to two North Korean satellites that are currently orbiting the U.S. at trajectories he says are optimized for a surprised EMP attack. Aaron Klein Investigative Radio is broadcast on terrestrial radio on New Yorks AM 970 The Answer and NewsTalk 990 AM in Philadelphia and online.
Pry was referring to the KMS 3-2 and KMS-4 earth observation satellites launched by North Korea in April 2012 and February 2016 respectively.
He warned: They are positioning themselves as sort of a nuclear missile age, cyberage version of the battleship diplomacy in my view. So that they can always have one of them (satellites) very close to being over the United States or over the United States.
Then if a crisis comes up and if we decide to attack North Korea, Kim Jong Un can threaten our president and say, Well, dont do that because we are going to burn your whole country down. Which is basically what he said. I mean, he has made threats about turning the United States into ashes and he connected the satellite program to this in public statements to deter us from attacking.
If you wanted to win a New Korean war, added Pry, one of the things you would certainly consider doing is taking out the United States

i’m pretty sure he’s planning a mass buffet looking at his fat ass
They have no foolhardy intentions of slugging it out with us Toe to Toe on our terms.
instead they’ll go a symmetric.
With EBT gone and ATOms unworkable, every US city will be choked with inky clouds of billowing only smoke, the tinkle of broken glass and the screams of every Trayvon somehow SURE that This Is All Part of Whiteys’s Dastardly Plan cuz We Wuz Kangz.
If they don’t yet have ICBM technology - how did they get those satellites into orbit?
EMP threat is over rated via a paper by Nobel Prize physicist Jack Stienberger.

Rockets.
The IC in ICBM means “going between continents”.
they don’t need to go between continents to go to orbit.
Going to orbit is *easier* I am going between continents in, say, 10 minutes flat.
Two points:
1. An EMP alone is not enough to prevent retaliation against North Korea. China would have to help. Otherwise that would be suicide for North Korea.
2. America may be the strongest, but it is not the only military power which would strike back at them. If taken seriously, there is this little thing called SEATO. There would be at least a half dozen other countries North Korea would have to be ready to fight.
If it’s true that these “failures” were actually successes and blowing up at the right height for an EMP attack it may be time for me to get my mylar bags to wrap my generator.
I'm reading "One Second After' now. I put it down this weekend after the first 150 pages. It was ruining my weekend.
Pretty sure the US has anti-satellite capability. If we decide to act, those two satellites will be the first to go.
Satellites are lighter and don’t require reentry vehicles. The launchers are also grossly impractical to use as ICBMs - they’re not mobile, large, not long-term storable, etc.
The ability to launch a satellite does mean that you’re getting close, however.
Do we have the ability to destroy or at least disable these satellites?
I don’t think the North Koreans have the capability to put something as heavy as one of their nukes into orbit, yet.
Yup - Neo Con fake news again, using same playbook from the run up to Iraq.
fool me once shame on you
fool me twice shame on me
I’m not a rocket scientist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn.....
An ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) is different than a satellite launch vehicle (Rocket) in subtle ways as I understand it. The guidance system and physics associated with stresses are different do to trajectory and re-entry. Apparently the ICBM is more sophisticated than the rocket to push cargo into orbit. As it was once explained to me, “the Germans, during WWII likely had the technology to put a satellite into orbit. But they used that technology to fire V2s at London instead.”
THAT said, I think the intent of your question is still very valid. Do they have the technology to actually guide and detonate a device that has been in space for several years into a strategic weapon with any sort of effectiveness. There is a lot of technology involved that I would think would be as complicated as an ICBM or more so.
I’m sure there are others that are more qualified than I to analyze validity of the supposition in this article.
“...how did they get those satellites into orbit?”
They already have satellites in orbit. Don’t be too snarky about them not being able to launch an ICBM just yet; they will eventually succeed.
KMS-4 (Kwangmyongsong-4 meaning Bright Star-4 or Lodestar-4 in Korean) is an earth observation satellite launched by North Korea on 7 February 2016. The launch happened after North Korea conducted a nuclear test on 6 January and as the United Nations Security Council is deciding on sanctions to be placed on the country following the nuclear test. The launch was also timed to celebrate the 74th birthday of late leader Kim Jong-il on February 16. Details on the Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite are not available, though it can be assumed that its design is similar to KMS-3-2 which carried an Earth observation camera and a 470MHz UHF radio payload to transmit patriotic songs. KMS-3-2 was reported to be three-axis stabilized and its cameras were to be used to collect still imagery as well as videos, to be downlinked via X-Band. The satellite is expected to operate for at least four years and fulfill an Earth Observation task.”

And you’ll fuel your generator with what? What will your generator be powering? All the control electronics in everything were zapped. Except your good old incandescent light bulbs.
Believe it or not, I brought that book with me on a vacation (!) a few years ago. Talk about catching up on your reading, yikes.
But try to buck up and finish it, because there is important info in it. There are a couple of parts that will make you cry, fair warning.
Also, if you go over to Amazon, in the reviews section, you’ll find a chat-type feature. From time to time, the author of the book himself engages with people who want to discuss it, even answering questions.
... If taken seriously, there is this little thing called SEATO....
The SEATO organization folded in June, 1977. But, a treaty like that
Isn’t needed to smack the little fat boy.
