Bill O'Reilly released a statement on Wednesday clarifying his departure from Fox News, saying that "completely unfounded claims" were the cause.
The departure came in the wake of multiple sexual harassment allegations against the cable news star, but his statement remained positive toward his former employer, Mediaite reported.
"Over the past 20 years at Fox News, I have been extremely proud to launch and lead one of the most successful news programs in history, which has consistently informed and entertained millions of Americans and significantly contributed to building Fox into the dominant news network in television," O'Reilly stated.
"It is tremendously disheartening that we part ways due to completely unfounded claims. But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today," he continued, alluding to the sexual harassment allegations.
"I will always look back on my time at Fox with great pride in the unprecedented success we achieved and with my deepest gratitude to all my dedicated viewers. I wish only the best for Fox News Channel," he concluded.
O'Reilly had worked for Fox News for over 20 years before he was released on Wednesday.

He’s just tired of fighting it.
That is a long time to be a female. Were you ever a male?
Sorry for the wisecrack - couldn't help it.
I’m sure he does have to sign a non compete. They don’t want him showing up as competition.
I well remember those good old days.
How sad they are gone. I wonder if todays women realize or even care how much respect they have lost by their use of filthy language?
Biggest problem women have these days is believing they are no different then men.
Tarlov's utterly stupid points-of-view are worse than her terrible voice.
And she's incomprehensibly proud of it all, like a little kid who has learned to play Chopsticks.
OReilly would have been destroyed long ago if he made a
He did destroy himself years ago, but Fox kept him around for the ratings. The women who brought sexual harassment and misconduct allegations against OReilly didnt just come out 10 years after the fact. Over a series of years, five different women were paid off to drop their charges and keep silent. The New York Times recently learned the details of these settlements and outed him.
I’m beginning to think “sexual harassment” should be confined to
1) proof of actual extortion of a female employee - “unless you do it, you’re gone” or
2) proof of truly unsolicited actual or attempted physical sexual touching
The “unsolicited” is a pretty big deal. I think women know what theyre up to and I think they usually can avoid a compromising situation if they want to. I think often they allow themselves to get into a potentially compromising situation and then later cry Wolf if it suits them.
And I think since women generally know when they choose to enter a potentially compromising situation, they can be prepared to prove legitimate harassment although they could also use the same device to entrap the guy (including subtle “soliciting”).
IMO, theres a lot of b/s surrounding the sexual harassment thing. So many women have decided to climb into the ring with the guys to compete with them in the workplace. That in itself is potentially volatile. IMO, generally women dont belong in the workplace competing with men, but if they do, then they should take the consequences.
Good one.
I have to say though that I think much if not most of the sexual harassment crap is a bunch of b/s. (I know I said "b/s is crap", but I guess that's how I feel about the Left and their phony laws.)
What we need is a prediction about who the next major player will be who stands up and fights for the restoration of America’s Free Constitutional Republic.
I got tired of BOR, but I think a lot of what the Left has constructed as sexual harassment, legally or otherwise, is b/s.

In the meantime, it looks like we need a replacement for Fox News who stands up and fights for the restoration of Americas Free Constitutional Republic. Do we have any takers?
Now back in my day, women that dressed like that were found on ‘street corners’ to this day I cannot paint my toenails because my Victorian, Catholic Grandmother that raised me told me that only ‘street walkers’ did that...
I went to Catholic school, uniforms, and yes I still don't paint my toenails, I don't wear low blouses or shirts, tight fitting clothes, nor did I ‘rat’ my hair nor did I wear a lot of makeup...
So when women, like those on FNC, look like that, IMHO they are asking for whatever they get...
They are there to ‘report the news’ not make it...
Doesn’t Fox make them wear the bimboid outfits provided by Fox? Not that they didn’t choose to work there, but I doubt they could then choose to wear 1950s Chinese communist pantsuits or whatever on their own,
Freegards
Rupert is being replaced by his two sons who are very much liberals and want to reprogram Fox in a "new image." Very soon it may look like CNN and they will wonder why ratings and income are down.
Watch Fox and Friends with Ainsley Earhardt. When she gets going talking, her hands are all over Doocy and Kilmeade who obviously can't do anything but talk, smile and attempt a laugh. Definitely a double standard for females.
I thought I was the only one who thought her voice was squeaky and horrible. Doing a search on it, I found many who told her to never change it!! She does have a good educational background (PHD in political science) but she comes across as annoying, and her voice doesn’t help.
I agree with you about the stretching of “sexual harassment” to possibly include non-incidents. But, considering this is the climate of people being offended by American Flags, needing safe rooms to escape images of Donald Trump, colleges (and even some high schools), putting the “feelings” of the students ahead of all other goals and objectives.... and so on, then it is easier to see females potentially being more easily offended than in the past. This is the culture the left has worked hard to create, and with the cooperation of the MSM, they seem to be winning.
You mean the loofah tape?
I have no sympathy for O’Reilly who, by the looks of it, is guilty of obnoxious behavior. Whether it rises to the level of legal harassment, I don’t know.
What gripes me the most is that they go after conservatives by about a factor of 10 to 1 over liberals. Yes, get rid of O’Reilly. No problem with that. And then get rid of ALL of the other commentators and newsreaders who have done the same thing at the liberal networks. The only time they go after liberals is when they are no longer useful idiots advancing the leftwing agenda.
Paying out settlements doesn’t look good but I guess he could argue that he did it because it was cheaper than litigation and he didn’t want to drag it out.
Was it tape rape?
