China has reportedly put its military on alert for a possible crisis in Korea.
Beijing is calling for calm, but the situation on the peninsula is extremely tense. Evidence suggests that North Korea may be preparing for a sixth nuclear test, and President Donald Trumps posture in the wake of the recent strikes on Syria has the Chinese concerned. The USS Carl Vinson, accompanied by several guided-missile destroyers and cruisers, is on its way to Korea.
If Pyongyang conducts its sixth nuclear test in the near future, the possibility of US military action against it will be higher than ever, the Global Times, a newspaper run by the Peoples Daily, the ruling partys paper, wrote Wednesday, Not only Washington brimming with confidence and arrogance following the missile attacks on Syria, but Trump is also willing to be regarded as a man who honors his promises.
Yet, Kim Jong-un appears undeterred.

They beat around the bush what side they are on.
I will read the entire article to see if they clarify.

They say this as if it is a bad thing. Keeping one’s word. Sheesh.
Most of North Korea’s Military = Cheap Slave Labor
Note that there’s multiple levels of translation & culture in that phrase, so it may not be formed as we are accustomed to.
Actually, I find it an endearingly understated expression of strength.
It appears that Trump has already made some type of DEAL with China that they couldn’t resist to reign in North Korea.
Communists will never real their true thinking, particularly the Chinese ones.
But logic would tell us they are NOT happy with DPRK having a nuke. Think about it - Beijing is 400 miles away. DPRK and China share a border. Los Angeles is 4000 miles away with an ocean in-between. Who faces the greater long-term threat?
But China also does not want the chance that they will have a unified Korea that is a US ally on their border - so they are in a pickle about what to do.
We can help fulfill that, apparently.
If the reports of over 180 thousand troops moved to the border are true, I doubt the government had to mention there might be hostilities ahead.
they fail to mention against whom these forces are arrayed.
I would not leap to the conclusion that the Chinese are on ‘our side’.
You’re right. It’s my take they may want to reign Kim in, but it is true they might be there to warn us off too. I’ve considered that too.
We’ll see.
True. But that still makes them better off than the majority of 'citizens'...
Oh, I don't know. When I was in the Air Force we went on "alert" many times, and because the first 100 times turned out to be drills, it's natural to believe 101 is also a drill. Still, we were ready because you never really know.
“I would not leap to the conclusion that the Chinese are on our side.”
I just hope that their intentions are limited to “occupying” North Korea, and not the South too. Shades of the Koran War. OTOH, having the Chinese “occupy” NK would be a better situation than we have at present.
You did tests like that same one many other times.
Those 180,000 troops on North Korea’s border have probably never participated in that type of an operation before.
For certain they haven’t done it near 100 times.
Of course my comment was loose speculation. The announcement from central command wasn’t unreasoned.
"Americans are your FRIENDS. The Chinese will KILL YOU."
