It’s been around since 2003? Seems to me then that the practical thing to do was to use it and stop paying to store it.

My guess is a test drop to assess blast effectiveness against mountainous tunnel complexes.

They’ve had this thing since 2003 and never used it. What a weird coincidence that they would decide to use it right about now. Must be some really important mud huts because I’m sure it’s not related to any ongoing negotiations.

Hopefully we have the troops near the tunnel entrances/exits - to get the rats that managed to survive to crawl out of their holes.

I thought ISIS was more of a ME problem, but they drop this bomb in Afghanistan. Another message to fat boy, maybe?

The AF tested a couple of these things at the range at Eglin a few years back. Sort of looks like a little nuc when it detonates. But I understand it’s designed for air burst, at least the Eglin units were.

Geez....I remember reading about the MOAB, mother-of-all— bombs, back way before I retired 5 years ago. As I recall it was a variation on the FAB (fuel-air-bomb) coupled with some hot sh!t penetrating poser......At the time a company called Dynetics produced it. A damn big munition as I recall.

Since I watch no TV at all, even the Fox News report was difficult to sit through. The report was padded with extraneous detail not germane to WHY we dropped this piece of ordnance, nor to WHAT the result was. When this bomb was first developed when it was first tested, when the public first began to be aware of its existence — these trivia add nothing to the news that we dropped on today in Afghanistan.
“News” reports that insist on tracing the history of every event back to the frickin’ Garden of Eden and throwing in every bit of trivia down to Eve’s measurements, Adam’s lite beer of choice, and what the weather was like the day of The Fall are a principle reason I haven’t had cable since 1990.

It was only 3 or 4 hours ago that I was reading about Kim Jong Un’s tunnel complex under Pyongyang. Was this a practice run for North Korea?
