This morning Judge Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. For such a non-controversial figure, Gorsuch experienced the full might of the Democratic Partys attack machine. Still sour at Senate Republicans blocking Merrick Garland, Obamas first pick to fill the vacancy left by the late Antonin Scalia, through the Biden rulethe Left was determined to stop Gorsuch at all costs. Despite having broad support from across the spectrum in the legal scholar realmObamas former solicitor general supported his nominationand the highest rating from the American Bar Association, Democrats formed a united front to stop him. They had the votes to block Gorsuch through a procedural hurdle, denying Senate Republicans the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture and move to the final confirmation vote. As a result, Senate Republicans nuked the rules, allowing for Gorsuch to be confirmed by a simple majority. Not liking someone because a Republican president nominated him or her isnt a good enough reason to block a judge. Democrats learned that the hard way.
Now, should a second vacancy occur, a) Republicans will not have as much trouble to confirm this person; and b) the composition of the Court could become more decidedly conservative. This is why it was probably best for the Democrats to keep their powder dry, but weve crossed that bridge.

And don't for get to split the ninth circus.
...sleepy ginsberg
it seems to me the article is a reiteration of reiterations
Do they have democrats in Rio Linde?
Let’s hope no more conservative judges decide to take solitary weekend retreats at liberal-owned getaways for a while....
Split the Ninth Circus into three parts.
Dems will keep the notorious RBG on life support and make decisions for her
Ginsberg will hold on for a while longer, I expect. But Kennedy is winding down.
The sad part is that the liberal Kushners seem now to be running policy at the WH, and you know Ivanka is going to be all over getting a liberal justice in to swing the court to the left.
This should be the fifth conservative judge to get us beyond the swing court we’ve had for years, but my bet would be against that at this point.
yep...it smells and the dogs don’t care..
He'll be 79 this summer.
It's not out of bounds to think that Trump could wind up placing 4 justices in his first term.
I think Ginsberg wanted to step down last year but wanted to give Hillary the power to choose her successor. Now she’s stuck trying to live at least another four years, and maybe 8. I don’t know if she has it in her.
I say this because of the utterly radical stuff she was saying last year. It was as if, in her mind, she wanted to go out with a bang, except now she can’t.
4?
You suggesting Thomas retires?
Actually , I think Trump is in charge.
Maybe even Breyer!!!!
God is GREAT!
:) :)
Yes, I guessing Kennedy in June and Ginsberg by year-end.
I can imagine an orchestrated simultaneous retirement, so the Dems can “insist” on selecting at least one liberal.
Take no prisoners!
We need only solid conservatives, still from that list of 21.
That should be grounds enough to force her retirement, if she can’t stay awake for a SCOTUS hearing, she is UNFIT to serve on medical grounds.
I thought Mz. Buzzi was headed for New Zealand...
I have heard leftists discussing changing the composition of the court from 9 justices to 11 or 13 if they manage to get back into power. FDR tried that once and failed. still, the nuclear option makes such a move especially dangerous to our views. We have to be very careful. they can never get back into a position like they were back in 2008 again because there will be no limits to the BS they’ll pull.
Sorry, I’m not buying into this new conspiracy theory that Ivanka is running the WH. She’d probably nominate Diana Ross because she thinks the Supremes are a singing group. She wasn’t exactly Jeanne Kirkpatrick in her recent Good Morning, America interview.
