A man has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally setting a huge fire that brought down part of an elevated interstate highway in Atlanta, a collapse that is expected to complicate traffic for months in one of the nation's most congested cities.
Basil Eleby and two other people -- all believed by investigators to be homeless -- have been arrested in connection with Thursday evening's fire under Interstate 85, Jay Florence, deputy insurance and safety fire commissioner, said Friday.
Eleby has been charged with first-degree criminal damage to property, Florence said. The other two -- Sophia Bruner and Barry Thomas -- have been charged with criminal trespassing.
Investigators believe Eleby started the fire intentionally, and that Bruner and Thomas were with him, Florence said.

Going from homeless to three squares and a bed. Sounds like things are looking up for these three.
I believe this guy has been arrested 19 times since the year 2000.
Letting him walk the streets seems like a bad idea.
Warehousing him in prison seems like a bad idea.
Looks like they will get either state or federally supplied free housing for a few years. (Unless,or maybe if, they promise to vote Democrat, that is)
Still looking for mug shots or perp walk photos. Nothing.
Buh, buh, but he was HOMELESS! Din’it it count for sumpin?
Now every law re: storage of supplies in Georgia will have to be changed to keep this from happening again. BTW, it was not ‘freezing’ or any of that at the time. Just ‘social justice’ I guess.
Instead of “three hots and a cot” this guy should get “three NOTS and a ZOT.”
Junkies and homeless. My guess is they were trying to cook product and something hot out of hand.
Were they trying to warm their ‘home’ under the bridge?
Except when they drop the soap

...give him a sledge hammer and shovel,a bucket of water, and a tent...”start over there”
Thank you. I just won a coffee. Liberals don’t know how to bet.
I remember a line from the movie version of “War and Peace” with Henry Fonda. Fonda is in front of Napoleon in the late summer, in Moscow, when Napoleon realizes it is getting late and he has to retreat. Napoleon looks at him, and says, “Shoot the incendiaries, release the others.”
Shoot the incendiaries—the firebugs. I’m ok with that.
That is all it takes to shut down a major expressway? Look out for I-75 and a few others.
Yeah......lots of instances of the use of “Basil” for the first name. I distinctly remember one of my early favorites, Basil Rathbone.... and that was only 50 years ago!
They are built for downward thrust. Nothing screws up concrete more than high, sustained burning.
Yes, some things are going to have to be rethought because we have absolute no-good useless twits who only want to lash out at those who aren’t their problem.
They use wood to build interstates in GA? Just how did that interstate burn anyway?
I will take door 3, drop him through the trap door at the bottom of the hanging platform.
The burned material is being identified as PVC by the LSM. I suspect they are incorrect. PVC is very difficult to get burning at the rates seen in the footage. Most likely polyethylene fiber optic conduit. PE when heated enough will burn like a new bride’s first turkey.
